Leadership of the operations and maintenance of a 3.3GW gas fleet by ensuring safety, maximizing availability, managing risk, and optimizing financial performance in compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the highest level of health and safety practices at all facilities.
- Ensure compliance with the facilities’ regulatory and environmental requirements, utilizing internal and external resources.
- Provide leadership to continue and grow our culture of operational excellence, sharing of innovations and best practices, and effective cost management.
- Instill a best talent mindset throughout Operations and within all plants.
- Work with the SVP, Operations, Directors of Wind and Solar and plant managers to further integrate Onward’s gas, wind and solar operations.
- Ensure a relationship built on mutual respect between plants and corporate teams.
- Develop relationships with key OEM’s and equipment vendors to ensure operation and maintenance of the projects are in compliance with contracted requirements and performance targets.
- Prepare and manage the annual O&M, major maintenance and capital budgets and recommend capital improvements to derisk and maximize profitability of each asset.
- Ensure operations performance targets (i.e., availability, dispatch, power vs. resource performance, budgets, etc.) are achieved for all gas facilities.
- Partner with senior management in the development, analysis, planning and execution of various special projects and initiatives (e.g., new operational strategies, cost reduction initiatives, bringing new projects online, etc.)
- Provide regular reports to senior management.
- Quickly establish credibility with plant management while managing, coaching, and motivating the operational teams.
- Interface with local and state authorities, and the public, where required.
- Identify and implement process improvements and incorporate asset management principles into company’s long-term operating plan.
- Develop a cost/benefit analysis for all plant capital and O&M projects and teach plant management the same principles.
- Support re-contracting efforts to maximize value.
- Support M&A acquisition or facility sale activities that meet strategic growth plan for the company.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred with a strong financial background. Applicable years of experience may substitute for degree.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in gas plant operations, transmission, or substation electrical systems.
- At least fifteen (15) years of direct supervisory/managerial and leadership experience; ability to delegate.
- Exceptional leadership and board-level presentation skills.
- Experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power plants. Preference of LM6000, LMS100, GE 7FA and Siemens 501F technologies.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of operations and maintenance of electrical systems, applicable to gas fired power plants, to ensure cost effective operation and competitive position.
- Solid working knowledge of budgeting, work scheduling, cost management tools and maintenance management systems. Maximo experience preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of NERC/Environmental compliance of assets; ability to lead gas plant teams as issues arise in the field.
- Strong skills for development of processes and procedures.
- Project management experience as direct lead on projects from start to finish.
- Self-starter with ability to make decisions and take necessary actions without specific direction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Keen multi-tasking capabilities and organizational skills; attention to detail.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
