The Director of Engineering provides strategic leadership and oversight for engineering activities across the U.S., China, and Europe. This role is responsible for driving regional research and development efforts, leading project design initiatives, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. The Director will guide cross-functional teams, foster innovation, and ensure the successful execution of engineering programs that support global business objectives.
- Understand Customer Needs: Proactively identify customer needs, challenges, and expectations, and lead the development of solutions to address complex product issues.
- Support Engineering & Design Requests: Provide high-level support for customer engineering and design requests, ensuring alignment with both customer and business goals.
- Market Analysis & Product Development: Analyze market trends and competitive intelligence to anticipate product advancements and drive innovation.
- Third-Party Certification Management: Oversee relationships with third-party testing labs to ensure products meet certification standards and comply with global regulations.
- Contract & Specification Review: Lead the review of technical contracts and electrical system specifications to verify compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, and customer contracts.
- Team & Resource Allocation: Plan and assign workloads to the engineering and claims/quality teams, ensuring efficient use of resources and on-time project delivery.
- Feasibility & ROI Analysis: Evaluate the feasibility, cost implications, and ROI of new product ideas, contributing to long-term business growth.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Team Training & Onboarding: Implement a comprehensive training and onboarding program for new hires, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with company goals.
- Mentorship & Performance Management: Supervise and mentor the engineering, promoting professional development, performance management, and a collaborative work environment.
- Customer Training & Support: Ensure that the team is fully resourced and knowledgeable to engage with customers through training sessions, webinars, and workshops.
- Advanced Technical Communication: Communicate technical roadmaps, product advancements, and complex engineering details to customers, addressing their technical concerns.
Compliance & Industry Standards: Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable codes, industry best practices, and contractual obligations.
Process Optimization: Continuously improve engineering processes and methodologies to optimize performance, reduce costs, and enhance project outcomes.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and supervise engineering and claims/quality teams, with a focus on professional development, performance management, and fostering a culture of transparency and collaboration.
- Resource Planning: Plan, prioritize, and assign work to the engineering teams, ensuring efficient resource allocation and meeting all project timeline requirements.
- Promote Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment within the engineering team, working closely with other departments and external partners to drive technical excellence and customer satisfaction.- B.S in Electrical Engineering degree or similar field with 13+ years working experience in PV Solar industry, 10+ years in a leadership position. Experience Managing growing teams from multiple disciplines.
- Must have experience with a utility-scale solar Engineering of Record (EOR) firm or hold an active electrical engineering license.
- Strong technical understanding of PV solar power systems and solar technologies.
- Familiar with solar array construction techniques, installation practices and plant start-up requirements.
- Senior level experience with medium to large projects and proven experience leading a growing electrical engineering team.
- Experience in estimating and scheduling of man-hours required for completion of work and successfully prioritize and assign work per schedule requirements.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Service attitude with a passion for customer satisfaction.
- Strong collaboration skills, and ability to work with multiple partners and peers inside and outside of the organization to achieve the best project and operational results.
- High Level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency
- NABCEP certification and BIM knowledge preferred.
- AutoCAD knowledge required. Ability to travel for field investigations and customer support.
