Overview
The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating all aspects of engineering for Greenfire. The role involves overseeing the design, optimization, integrity of our facilities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance. The Director will also provide technical leadership, drive innovation, and foster collaboration among engineering, operation and development teams to achieve production goals while maintaining high standards of performance and safety.
This is a permanent, full-time position based at Greenfire Resources’ Calgary office, with occasional fieldwork as required, based on operational needs and management discretion.

Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management:
•Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers and technical professionals involved in operations, reliability and facility design.
•Set clear objectives and performance metrics for the engineering team, aligning with project goals.
•Provide guidance and direction to ensure optimal team performance, career development, and a collaborative work environment.
System Design and Optimization:
•Manage process engineering involvement in the optimization of steam injection and bitumen recovery processes, ensuring maximum operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
•Ensure the integration of new technologies and methodologies to improve the efficiency of operations.
•Ensure regulatory compliance by adhering to API, ASME, ISO, and other industry standards.
•Offer technical support during facility commissioning, start-up, and operational troubleshooting and optimization.
•Individual responsible for APEGA, PPMP, PEIMS and CMS
Operational and Maintenance Support:
•Ensure continuous improvement and optimization of SAGD facilities. Work closely with the operations teams to assess performance and implement new technologies or processes to improve steam injection rates, bitumen recovery, and thermal efficiency.
•Track and report on engineering performance, costs, and schedule progress to the COO and other executive team members. Provide regular updates and detailed reports on engineering projects, budgets, and performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
•Collaborate with operations teams to ensure smooth transitions between design and operations phases.
Safety and Compliance:
•Ensure all engineering activities comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations, including health, safety, and environmental standards.
•Promote a safety-conscious culture within the team and take responsibility for managing risk assessments, safety procedures, and audits.
•Drive continuous improvement in safety performance through engineering innovation and adherence to best practices.
•Identify, assess, and mitigate engineering and operational risks associated with SAGD operations. Ensure proactive risk management strategies are in place to prevent delays, equipment failures, and safety incidents.
Requirements
•Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline). A Master’s degree in a relevant field or MBA is a plus.
•Professional Designation: Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or equivalent accreditation in applicable jurisdiction.
•Experience: Minimum of +15 years of progressive experience in oil sands operations, with at least 5 years in leadership
•Expertise: Strong understanding of engineering practice, facility design, optimization, project management. Proven ability to manage large, complex projects.
•Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams, managing budgets, and delivering large-scale, cross-functional projects. Strong organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
•Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and industry standards, particularly in oil sands operations.
