Position Summary

IOWN is looking for a Director, Engineering to join our growing team.

The ideal candidate will oversee all engineering at IOWN of utility-scale wind, solar and storage development & construction. This role will support the development of wind, solar and storage projects from initial feasibility studies, through preliminary design and interconnection, and on into commercial operations. The Director will ensure that all projects are optimized for maximum life cycle value, assisting in the selection of key vendors and guiding important design decisions. This is a dynamic role in a growing organization with an opportunity to guide company strategy, manage the creation of critical engineering deliverables and ensure that all constructed projects adhere to applicable designs, specifications and contracts.


Responsibilities

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Management of resource assessment, cost estimates, designs, and technology evaluation.

Grow and manage the engineering department, providing leadership to junior team members, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Support interconnection application submittals and working closely with grid operators and utilities to ensure projects are designed and constructed in a compliant manner.
Participate in technical due diligence of utility-scale renewable energy and storage projects in all stages of the development phase, for acquisition, or sale.
Lead efforts to create detailed design and layouts of projects, including modeling of energy generation and energy firming
Generate energy assessments and participate in developing and updating revenue stacking models. This includes organization and assistance of the various components of energy and financial analysis, with some understanding of energy, capacity, ancillary service markets and economics.
Support technology assessment and market intelligence with respect to various technology solutions to be incorporated in project designs and bids.
Participate in bidding, evaluation, and procurement of certain services and contractors (environmental, permitting, engineering, procurement, construction).
Review contracts and prepare technical specifications, scopes of work and other exhibits, pulling in third party experts as needed.
Fully understand financial drivers of all projects assigned (including assistance and interpretation of financial models, with understanding of project financing and corporate risk assessment and profitability objectives that drive renewable energy project development and sales).
Ensure all engineering deliverables are provided on time and within budget; manage third party engineers and EPCs to meet or exceed expectations.
Review and approve key deliverables.
Work with other internal and external teams and colleagues in the development, construction, and asset management of projects.


Qualifications, Education And Experience

A minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical discipline or equivalent experience in a related field.
A least 7-10 years utility-scale renewable energy industry development experience with exposure to multiple technologies, including development, origination, permitting, interconnection, engineering, procurement, construction, due diligence and/or financial analysis.
Experience recruiting, hiring and managing technical personnel.
Experience with translating specific technology parameters into energy or resource production models and optimized project designs.
Experience with CAISO, MISO, ERCOT markets is strongly preferred.
Keen understanding of supply and demand, policy/regulation, markets, and financial metrics that drive successful project development.
Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
Organized, diligent, and able to track and manage multiple streams of information on an ongoing basis
Ownership of workflows to meet deadlines and budgets.
Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
The employee will occasionally lift and or carry up to 25 lbs.
Travel up to 25%
Employee may use computer, phone, copier and other office equipment in the course of a day.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, touch, and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, grasp, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment.

The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in San Diego, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
