Job Description
Responsible for the construction and maintenance of Avista’s electric Transmission & Distribution infrastructure and supports the operation of the electric system, gas system and generation system with other leaders. Leads and provides strategic direction for the Electrical Engineering business unit. Works closely with other departments to ensure electric infrastructure availability. Oversees departmental personnel issues, including selection, career development, performance management, succession planning, and inclusion and belonging efforts in department. Serves in cross-departmental senior leadership roles, including participation in company-wide steering committees and councils, strategic initiatives, capital and expense planning, and labor negotiations. Leads with the customer in mind, ensuring employees work in accordance with the “4 Keys”- Care, Trust, Ease, and Ownership. Contributes to industry advancement through involvement with external organizations such as EEI, IEEE, ASCE, CEATI, WEI, etc.
- Ensures the timely delivery and quality of electric infrastructure projects.
- Develops and executes business strategy to align with company strategic goals. Develops and monitors business unit metrics. Develops action plans as needed to keep projects on course.
- Manages personnel including hiring, performance management, coaching, employee engagement, continuous education, training, and development.
- Oversees the regulatory compliance for the company’s distribution, protection, transmission, and substation facilities.
- Establishes and maintains close working relationships with other functional directors and leadership to maintain alignment of the strategic direction of the overall company.
- Partner with organizational stakeholders to establish multi-year project plans and priorities.
- Responsible for developing and managing the O&M and capital budgets for the Electrical Engineering business unit.
- Participates in broadcast and print interviews relating to the company’s electric and gas infrastructure.
- Creates and implements systems and processes that monitor work to ensure that continuous quality service is delivered to all internal and external customers.
- Fosters a positive and supportive work environment; promotes inclusion and belonging in the workplace; and contributes to an environment of mutual respect.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Job duties are subject to change as directed by management.
- Professional Engineering license.
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university in a relevant engineering field, Master's degree in a related field preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in a key leadership role or high-level individual contributor role with broad utility and labor management background. - Five (5)+ years of demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others to achieve objectives required.- Experience in the management of capital budgets and business cases.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to drive business results in previous roles required.
- Ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships. Skilled in supervisory, leadership, coaching, and development of teams in a changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to plan for, influence, implement, lead and manage change across key stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Possess the ability to be proactive and strategic.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in working with a union workforce preferred.

Hiring Range: $161,720 to $215,895
Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with additional day(s) determined by the leader. To Apply

In compliance with state laws, we provide the full salary range for each position, along with the typical hiring range based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
