Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
The Development Engineering Manager will be responsible for providing engineering support on electrical interconnection and early design development of gas, battery storage, solar, and data center projects. The Development Engineering Manager will be expected to be the technical liaison between the Commercial / Origination, Calpine Construction, Calpine Fleet Engineering, and Calpine Senior Management teams for Development projects. Collaborate closely with other internal teams, including but not limited to Origination, Land, Permitting, Legal, and Gov Reg teams on Development projects. Manage external firms as needed for interconnection-related and early conceptual design work for Development projects.
May also provide engineering and technical support for new projects and build-outs. Defines and develops project management best practices, processes, and policy to ensure alignment with corporate strategy and goals. Partners with multi-departmental leadership and other stakeholders to locate opportunities and develop and prioritize projects according to relevant measurement criteria. Collaborates with Power Ops business personnel to continuously improve processes; initiate and implements new methodologies, process and procedures that support company long, mid and short term goals; and prepares, analyzes and reports project status to the management.
Works closely with Dir. Project Management & Development.

- Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve significant issues, clarify or interpret complex information, and provide initial screening/negotiations.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, prefer Master’s Degree.
- Previous project management experience.
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 to 10+ years in the area of specialization.- Experience in the interconnection process with ISOs (ERCOT / PJM / NYISO / MISO) and Transmission Owners for various generation technologies
- Familiar with Electrical One-lines, Three-Lines, Schematics, Studies
- Familiar with High Voltage Substations, HV Transformers, HV Breakers.
- Working knowledge of HV design associated with gas generation, data centers, standalone battery storage, and solar PV plants
- Working knowledge of overall electrical design within the plant distribution associated with new natural gas generation.
- Experience in using ETAP software. Knowledge of PSS/E and ASPEN is a plus.
- Has worked in or managed engineering firms at some level on projects.
- Has strong technical and leadership skills.
- Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Has demonstrated the ability to work in an environment with changing priorities.
