JOB SUMMARY: The Departmental Lead is responsible for leading and guiding a team of employees to meet daily production, quality, and safety goals. This position oversees employee performance, provides mentorship, and fosters a positive and collaborative work environment.
Oversee and manage the daily work of departmental staff to ensure tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and on time.
Adjust workflows and reassign tasks as necessary to maintain production flow and meet operational goals
Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, fostering accountability to job expectations, safety protocols, and company standards.
Provide feedback on employee performance, address performance concerns through coaching. Escalate unresolved performance issues to the Manufacturing Manager for further review.
Monitor employee attendance and punctuality, address attendance issues promptly and report any ongoing concerns to the Manufacturing Manager.
Assist in training and onboarding new hires by clearly outlining job expectations, safety protocols, and operational standards to ensure a smooth transition into their roles.
Ensure the department consistently meets production, quality, and safety goals daily.
Assign tasks to employees according to their individual skill sets, current workload, and production priorities, ensuring optimal resource utilization.
Monitor the progress of work and address any operational issues that arise.
Help maintain equipment, supplies, and materials to ensure the department runs smoothly.
Foster a positive, team-oriented work culture through clear communication and collaboration.
Act as the point of contact for the department
Identify and resolve operational issues that affect productivity, work quality, or employee performance, exercising decision-making authority within established guidelines to minimize disruption.
Assist in decision-making regarding daily operational procedures and workflows; when necessary, implement changes to workflow, task prioritization, and staffing adjustments independently.
Conduct regular safety audits and assist with safety training to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies.
Enforce adherence to safety protocols and take immediate action to address safety violations, including halting unsafe work practices and implementing corrective measures. Report significant concerns to the Manufacturing Manager.
Track key departmental metrics, such as productivity, attendance, quality and inventory, providing regular reports to management.
Maintain accurate records of employee performance. Ensure that records are properly updated and communicated to management when necessary.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, leadership experience preferred.
Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and present to employees at all organizational levels. Better than average math skills required. Must be able to analyze all information and see cause and affect possibilities. Creative problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking required. Must understand manufacturing methods, machine capabilities, and workflow through the production facility. Experience working with business system software, Epicor experience a plus. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office software products.
