HM Cragg's Agency Division is seeking a Datacenter Service Engineer to expand our service offerings for the Power Plus program in the Minnesota critical power market. Whether banking, healthcare, financial, hyperscale AI, education or manufacturing, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) are a critical component for the customers that we serve.
In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining critical power systems in datacenter and other customer applications and environments. This is an opportunity to be a subject matter expert and have a profound effect in advising customers regarding maintenance and providing HM Cragg solutions for our critical power customers.
Working with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) UPS technicians as well as engineering firms, commissioning agents, electrical contractors, and the end user, provide support for installation and testing of on-site equipment to ensure it meets the customer and OEM specifications.
Reporting Relationship: The Datacenter Service Engineer reports to the Director, Agency Sales.
- Act as a liaison between OEM UPS manufacturers, HM Cragg Territory Sales Managers, and the end user
- Ensure tools and test equipment are ready for use, calibrated and inspected
- Perform data collection for asset information, model, equipment location and use
o Record critical data about the equipment in our ERP system to include date codes, special features and the like
o Perform maintenance (preventive, corrective maintenance, and depot level repair emergency replacements)
o Schedule preventive maintenance with the end user
- Travel to customer locations to discuss maintenance opportunities and concerns
- Perform routine testing on the UPS modules to ensure proper operation
- Ambassador for Safety
o Perform risk assessment for each service interaction
o Mitigate risk through procedure, LOTO isolation, LDL and PPE as required
o Manage PPE used during maintenance procedures (glove inspection, PPE assessment, establishing approach boundary and the like)
o Reporting of near miss or other concerns through EHS
- Assist with deployment of critical systems across the United States (20% travel estimate)
o Work with OEM UPS technicians to ensure equipment setup and configuration is correct
o Perform functional testing and record UPS performance using a Fluke PQ meter
o Liaison with commissioning agents and end users to ensure performance expectations are being met
o Perform battery discharge testing with artificial load and monitor performance
o Assist with customer requirements for UPS rentals
o Ensure rental devices are operational and prepared for deployment
- Perform on-site sales visits to provide customers details regarding preventive, corrective and depot level replacement service offerings
o Assist the Sales team to provide quotations for specific customer needs
o Track win-loss information for contract renewal and retention
o Ability to speak to entire HM Cragg solution and product offerings
- Perform physical and mechanical inspections of UPS modules
o Carefully inspect wiring and assembly from manufacturing to ensure compliance
- Ability to use general purpose (DVM, Oscilloscope, Phase Rotation Meter) as well as special purpose test equipment (Fluke PQ Meter, Infrared Camera, AC load bank)
- Ability to use torque wrenches, socket sets and other hand tools
- PC proficiency (Microsoft suite to include Excel, PPT, Word) as well as custom communications

- Formal electronics training is required
- Undergraduate degree is preferred
- Minimum of two years of UPS Maintenance experience is required
- Modbus/TCP-IP/BMS experience is preferred
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
