Spire is seeking a Database Engineer to be tasked with implementing database solutions and help design Cloud Database Architecture, including building, maintaining and implementing database solutions across multiple application environments and ensuring all databases adhere to security and governance standards and best practices.
- Monitor databases for performance problems and recommend performance-tuning actions.
- Recommend, install, and maintain relevant network components to ensure database access, consistency, and integrity.
- Recommend, test, and implement new releases of the Oracle and SQL database products.
- Work with Business and IT teams, design and implement new databases and assist in the development of utilities/programs to be used in the loading of data into the databases.
- Train other DBEs as needed in the Oracle and MS SQL database environment and on any application in which the DBE has knowledge.
- Initiate, review, and maintain policies and procedures pertaining to database recovery and disaster recovery.
- Install and maintain database products and utilities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing procedures for modifications to databases.
- Recommend, establish and implement database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity, recoverability, and availability of data controlled by these databases.
- Ensure infrastructure meets industry standards for high availability, ensuring uptime SLAs are met.
- Work with the Operations team and Smart Desk to provide documentation, operating procedures and troubleshooting guides for ongoing support.
- Work with Information Security on secured configurations and policies for infrastructure systems.
- Work with the ITSM team regarding change control, incident management, problem management and IT policies in an ITIL driven organization.
- Fully embedded in Agile teams, participate in all ceremonies and planning.
- Review and develop procedures and document resolutions contributing to the Knowledgebase and detailing problem resolution.
- Bachelor's degree (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Physics or a related scientific/technical discipline), or foreign degree equivalent.
- Employer will accept a 3 or 4-year degree.
- 5 years of relevant experience.
- 5 years of engineering or administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- 3 years of experience writing, reviewing, and optimizing T-SQL queries.
- 3 years of experience managing and maintaining disaster recovery and high availability configurations.
- The position allows for occasional telecommuting within a reasonable distance of reporting office in St. Louis, Missouri.
- Position requires occasional short duration domestic travel up to 5% of time, including travel within Missouri and Alabama, in order to work on a project, attend a conference or business meeting.
