Are you in? Primary Purpose:
Investigate dig ins resulting in damage to ComEd and PECO facilities and make determinations as to who is at fault that will assist the claims group in collecting for the cost of repair. Intervene on jobsites to stop unsafe digging practices and follow up with training advice and assistance. Assist locators and excavators in a proactive manner to reduce dig ins to ComEd and PECO facilities. Protect the Company's assets and self-insured retention by managing the field investigation of Bodily Injury and Property Damage claims (including those claims in which litigation has been filed) as well as cases involving damage to company property. Temporarily fill in for the Supervisor and Manager on an as needed basis.
Note: Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage for storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
Investigate dig in that result in damage to PHI facilities using the Delaware/Maryland Underground Utility Facilities Damage Prevention Act and 811 Miss Utility Laws as a guide. Respond to and coordinate the investigation of major incidents (gas explosions, fires and electrocutions) including significant company damage events on a 24-hour basis. Meet with customers/claimants, witnesses, etc. to obtain facts of incidents. Evaluate damages and make a liability determination. Understanding the law, deductive reasoning and a commonsense approach to construction and locating activities are needed when making an at fault determination. Facilitate open communication between PHI, locate contractors and excavators to minimize the opportunities to damage PHI facilities. Document investigations in a manner, which will assist claims in collecting on the cost to repair PHI facilities which is approximately $5M - $7M. Operate with wide latitude for unreviewed action. Act as Company Representative in depositions and litigations. Provide educational services to internal and external constituencies; assist in the training of new DPS', LR's and Contractors. Serve on root cause investigation teams to provide the Claims viewpoint in these activities.
