CUSTOMER SERVICE / CUSTODIAL SUPPORT
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
Provide customer service for utility customers, including assisting customers, processing service orders, receiving payments and responding to inquiries. This position also supports custodial functions to ensure that NBU facilities - including customer-facing areas, internal offices, treatment plants and field operation buildings - remain clean, safe and well-maintained. Work is performed under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer with custodial direction as needed from Facilities or Maintenance Coordinators.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Customer Service Functions:
•Greets customers in person and by telephone; provides information regarding services, policies and procedures.
•Accepts payments, balances cash drawer and processes transactions accurately.
•Sets up new accounts and maintains existing account information in the billing system.
•Generates service and maintenance work orders; communicates with field staff regarding service requests and status.
•Responds to customer inquiries, resolves issues and assists with service concerns.
•Prepares and processes forms, reports and correspondence related to billing, collections and deposits.
•Assists with general office tasks such as filing, scanning, faxing and handling incoming/outgoing mail.
•Provides backup support to the customer service team as needed.
Custodial Support Functions:
•Performs regular and thorough cleaning of NBU facilities, including customer-facing areas, internal offices, treatment plants, field operations buildings and shop areas.
•Sweeps, mops, vacuums, dusts and disinfects floors, surfaces, furniture and fixtures.
•Empties trash and recycling receptacles and restocks supplies in restrooms, kitchens and common areas.
•Cleans and maintains employee breakrooms, restrooms and workstations.
•Assists with special cleaning needs such as preparing meeting spaces, deep cleaning tasks, or seasonal upkeep.
•Notifies the Facilities or Maintenance Coordinators of supply needs or maintenance issues.
•Operates cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers and other tools as needed.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
•Assists with special projects or assignments as needed.
•Provides coverage for other team members during absences, including front desk duties, payment processing and custodial tasks.
•Maintains a flexible schedule and adapts to changing work assignments to meet departmental needs.
•Supports other departments during emergencies or high-traffic periods.
•Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•High school diploma or GED; supplemented by previous experience in customer service, utility billing, or general office work. Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred.
•Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
PERFORMANCE APTITUDES
•Data Utilization: Ability to perform basic math and data entry functions accurately.
•Human Interaction: Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with customers and coworkers.
•Equipment Use: Proficient with office equipment; able to operate custodial tools such as vacuums and cleaning supplies.
•Physical Ability: Tasks require light to moderate physical effort including lifting (up to 25 lbs), standing, walking, bending and using cleaning equipment.
•Sensory Requirements: Ability to perceive and respond to sound and visual cues.
•Environmental Factors: May involve occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals and handling custodial tasks in various facility environments.
