Custom Metal Finisher

Job description

Grinds and smooths surfaces of items, such as railings, framing, stairs, ladders and various components, prior to polishing and buffing operations by performing the following duties. Other job duties throughout the shop as needed to maintain efficient work flow.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Examines and feels surface of work piece for defects. Selects grade (60# grit to 200# grit) of abrasives belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, and attaches to grinder. Starts grinder and moves it over surface of work piece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burs. Blends ground areas with finer abrasive to produce smooth, unmarred surface. Replaces worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
