The Cultural Resources Environmental Scientist position pays between $63,440 to $79,300; the Senior Cultural Resources Environmental Scientist position pays between $78,640.00 to $98,300.00. Placement in any level is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities This list does not reflect the job duties in their entirety.

Collaborates with engineers, construction crews, and environmental staff on cultural and environmental aspects of project planning and execution, including pedestrian surveys, constructions monitoring, report writing, and oversight of contractors performing similar work
Provides updates and guidance on project status, direction, and cultural/environmental risk
Coordinates and appraises the work of environmental consultants and contractors to ensure quality and regulatory compliance
Assists in the review of legislation, legal matters, and regulatory issues; consults with internal departments, external organizations, and regulatory agencies to adress environmental issues and constraints
Supports the review and interpretation of environmental legislation, legal matters, and regulatory requirements relevant to cultural resources
Participates in the due diligence assessments and scopes necessary work products for real property and operational assets
Interprets laboratory and field data, compares results to regulatory standards, and participates in environmental audit programs to ensure ongoing compliance
Coordinates and responds to chance archaeological discoveries, spills and wildlife emergencies in accordance with protocols

Successful Candidate Must Have

Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or related field
A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Cultural Resources Environmental Scientist: 2 years of cultural resource management and environmental related experience, such as construction monitoring, cultural resources, surveys, archaeological excavations, artifacts identification and report preparation.Preferred permitted or eligible for permitting in New Mexico for cultural resource permits with federal agencies (e.g., BLM, USFS, BIA) and the NM Historic Preservation Division (e.g., general archaeological investigations, unmarked human burials)
Senior Cultural Resources Environmental Scientist: 5 years of cultural resource management and environmental related experience such as construction monitoring, permitting, or regulatory coordination. Permitted or eligible for permitting in New Mexico for cultural resource permits with federal agencies (e.g., BLM, USFS, BIA) and the NM Historic Preservation Division (e.g., general archaeological investigations, unmarked human burials)
Knowledge of federal and state cultural resource regulations, including the National Historic Preservation Act and NM Cultural Properties Act; permitted or permittable for archaeological investigations in NM with federal agencies (e.g., BLM, USFS, BIA) and the NM Historic Preservation Division.
Preferences: Previous project experience on Federal (e.g., BLM, USFS, NPS) and state lands (e.g.), NMSLO). Fluent in Spanish. Proficient in utility operations. Previous leadership experience. Strong knowledge of anthropology and archaeology methods.

Working Conditions

Regularly required to stand and/or walk up to 2/3 of the time and sit up to 1/3 of the time. Manual dexterity required and the ability to talk, see and hear. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Occasional bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting and climbing. Some travel required, including driving. Exposed to outside weather conditions during fieldwork and construction and compressor station environments.
