Position Title: Drop Ball Crane Operator Location: Marion, OH

Department: OperationsThe Drop Ball Crane Operator is responsible for safely and effectively operating the drop ball crane to process scrap metal at the drop ball pit. This role ensures all work is carried out in accordance with company safety policies, standard operating procedures, and site environmental regulations. The operator performs pre-shift inspections, communicates with team members using radios, and follows protocols to minimize hazards and environmental risks.
- Conduct thorough and documented Pre-Shift Inspections of the crane and work area.
- Perform visual inspections of the drop ball pit to ensure safety barriers are in place and debris is properly contained.
- Operate the drop ball crane to break down scrap metal, ensuring materials are placed level and stable to reduce hazards.
- Load processed scrap into appropriate staging areas and coordinate with the Front-End Loader (FEL) operator for material replenishment.
- Follow all site safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times.
- Maintain radio communication with site personnel, especially during active operations.
- Lower the magnet during breaks and at the end of each shift in designated areas.
- Stop operations immediately if unauthorized personnel are nearby and notify supervision.
- Adhere to environmental controls, including dust mitigation and anti-idling procedures.
- Assist with cable changes and crane walk-in procedures as needed.
- Prior experience operating cranes or heavy equipment preferred.
- Ability to read and understand safety and operating procedures.
- Comfortable working in an industrial outdoor environment.
- Ability to climb ladders and use 3-point contact technique.
- Exposure to dust, noise, and outdoor elements.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and operate machinery for extended periods.
- Must remain alert to environmental conditions such as thunderstorms (operations must cease in such events).
