PositionDescription
The cost accountant is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and control of general ledger accounts ensuring the accuracy of data that includes thorough review and analysis of financial records, with an emphasis in inventory, costs associated with production, margin analysis and tracing costs back to underlying activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Cost Analysis Reporting
•Prepare cost estimates for new and existing products
•Monitor and analyze production costs, cost of goods sold (COGS), and inventory valuation
•Perform variance analyses between standard and actual costs and explain causes
•Prepare internal cost reports and present findings to management
•Support budgeting and forecasting processes, particularly in cost projections
Accounting Operations
•Assist accounting supervisor with month-end and year-end close processes related to cost accounting
•Perform general accounting tasks, including creating and recording journal entries for monthly expense allocations, accruals, depreciation, and cash transactions
•Perform monthly bank reconciliations
•Review and record employee expense reports
•Assist the finance department with accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) transactions as needed
•Perform cash receipts processing and customer collection calls
Inventory Compliance
•Assist in conducting physical and cycle inventory counts
•Maintain the cost accounting system and ensure timely updates
•Monitor cost records, systems, and accounting data to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies and relevant accounting standards
•Assist accounting supervisor in creating controls for data accumulation and reporting systems
Collaboration Process Improvement
•Work closely with operations and manufacturing teams to improve cost efficiency
•Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned
Knowledge, Skills Abilities
•Strong understanding of cost systems and accounting principles (required)
•Knowledge of standard costing and activity-based costing (ABC) (preferred)
•Knowledge of ERP systems (preferred)
•Proficiency in accounting software such as SAP, Oracle, or QuickBooks (preferred)
•Excellent analytical skills (required)
•Strong problem-solving skills (required)
•Strong organizational skills with attention to detail (required)
•Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills (required)
•Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (required)

•Ability to demonstrate accountability and take ownership of decisions (required)
•Demonstrates confidentiality, ethical judgment, and professional behavior regarding financial information (required)

Qualifications Experience
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience is required. Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment with an emphasis in cost accounting is preferred. Familiarity with ERP systems is preferred.
