BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P NK CORPORATE COMPLIANCE Department of the P VP LEGAL Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. This position may be filled on Oahu, Maui, or Hawaii Island. (Role: Professional)

This posting seeks to fill at either the Corporate Compliance Investigator/Sr. Corporate Compliance Investigator - Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island; whichever level is most suited to the qualifications of the applying candidate.



Corporate Compliance Investigator


JOB FUNCTION:

Follows-up on or investigates reported instances of violations primarily focused on but not limited to discrimination, sexual harassment, workplace violence, prevailing laws, regulations, and internal policies and practices. Provides findings to the manager and Chief Compliance Officer. Promotes ethical behavior, facilitates proper decision-making, and provides employees with the tools and resources to make ethical business decisions. Supports programs to ensure compliance with the Company’s Corporate Code of Conduct. Models and acts in accordance with the Company’s guiding principles and strategic plan.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

At the direction of the manager, conducts internal investigations involving suspected violations of the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and Company policies and practices. Such investigations are highly sensitive, critical, confidential and time sensitive, and may require collaboration with numerous internal partners, including Legal, HR, Safety, Operations, etc. Prepares accurate and timely oral and written reports of investigative activity to the division manager and the Chief Compliance Officer.
Provides oral and written advice on inquiries relating to ethics and compliance. Utilizes appropriate metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of activities that are aimed at promoting a positive and integrity-based corporate culture and environment.
Assists the manager in presentations, trend analysis and other assignments that impact the Company’s overall compliance programs and initiatives. Serves as back-up to the compliance analysts in the areas of policy management, disclosure of interest processes, audit committee and executive reporting and other duties, as necessary.
Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
Other duties as assigned.



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


Knowledge Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Law or related discipline, or its equivalent.
Professional Certified Investigator certificate is desirable.
Working knowledge of employment and labor laws, such as Title VII, ADAA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Equal Pay Act, FLSA, FMLA, NLRA, and relevant state laws.
Proficient use of personal computers and related software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, databases, EthicsPoint and other similar programs.

Demonstrated excellence in oral, written, listening and interpersonal communication to effectively work with all levels of the organization, including senior and executive management personnel.
Demonstrated ethical behaviors and decision-making.

Strong commitment to teamwork and two-way communication to ensure the achievement of common goals and objectives.
Demonstrated presentation and platform skills to conduct/facilitate various programs and activities.
Demonstrated responsibility for self-development and willingness to learn new skills by actively participating in Company-sponsored training, self-study, professional organizations or other educational means.
Ability to travel to neighbor island company office locations, as required.
Must have or be able to qualify for current State of Hawaii driver’s license to perform on-site investigations. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety



Experience Requirements

Several (4-6) years experience in a legal, compliance or human resources role.
Minimum 2-3 years of conducting employee investigations.
Experience in developing and presenting training on various workplace topics.
Experience in project or program development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and assessment.



Senior Corporate Compliance Investigator


JOB FUNCTION:

Conducts complex investigations involving allegations of violation of law, corporate policies and the Code of Conduct. Provides findings to the manager and Chief Compliance Officer. Promotes ethical behavior, facilitates proper decision-making and provides employees with the tools and resources to make ethical business decisions. Supports programs to ensure compliance with the Company’s Corporate Code of Conduct. Models and acts in accordance with the Company’s guiding principles and strategic plan.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for the Corporate Compliance Investigator [Req ID 9820] position is $78,000 to $99,600. The hiring range for the Senior Corporate Compliance Investigator [Req ID 9820] position is $107,700 to $139,800. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
