CH Site: Kelso Conservation Area *Must be willing/able to work at any CH designated area

Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Recreation Operations, the Coordinator, Trails Operations & Development works closely with the management team to ensure the building, maintenance and development of trail networks and other recreation-based terrain, providing a quality visitor experience with an ongoing focus of enhancing park visitation.

Responsible for the development of new recreational facilities & infrastructure at all parks including trail building & maintenance efforts, signage & visitor education content, support for and execution of programs and events – ensuring that new & existing recreational offerings align with park & program needs in a safe and effective manner.
Contribute to the development and enhancement of trail infrastructure, including multi-use paths, trailheads and accessibility features across all parks and green spaces.
Responsible for capital budgeted expense controls relating to trails and infrastructure projects including staff, supplies, services, and fuel. Purchasing, ordering, and sourcing materials/supplies in line with budget goals and purchasing policy.
Responsible for the selection, onboarding, and training of Conservation Halton Trails Association volunteers
Develop work plans and schedule work according to priorities. Delegate and oversee work carried out by volunteers to ensure it is performed safely, effectively, and efficiently
Maintain records of all trail/infrastructure systems and maintenance
Work with the Manager, Recreation Operations & Senior Management team to contribute towards long term planning
In collaboration with Coordinator, Recreation Operations establish procedures/policies that relate to trail building, maintenance, and development.
Coordinate development and implementation of departmental standards, policies, manuals, SOPs, training practices and schedules
Collaborate with various internal teams providing support to trails and infrastructure development
Responsible for applying Risk Management practices & maintaining a focus on continuous risk management improvements applying to trail networks and other recreation-based terrain.
Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals.

Your Qualifications

A diploma or degree in a related field, combined with 5+ years’ of relevant experience in recreation operations and programming, trail building, and Risk Management in recreation operations
5 years’ experience in trail feature construction
3 years’ experience in understanding of construction methods and construction site awareness
2 years’ experience in heavy machine operations (Mini ex, Tractors, Skid Steers etc.)
Advanced technical understanding of trail building and maintenance, experience in trail auditing and reporting is an asset
Strong leadership & communication skills to support large volunteer team and meet guest needs. Previous experience with staff management in a leadership role is preferred.
Strong organizational and time management skills to forecast and plan workloads, ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced work environment both independently and in a multidisciplinary team setting
Ability to adapt to the daily challenges associated with Park operations. Resourceful with strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
Financial and project management skills with experience in Capital planning and implementation is an asset
Formal training and certifications through Ontario Parks Association, IMBA Canada, or Professional Trail building Association is an asset
Strong computer skills, including Proficiency with various digital platforms and systems including MS Office, Dayforce, Field Maps and Survey 123
Able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, on varied terrain.
Successful candidate will be required to have Standard First Aid and CPR certification prior to first day of employment
A valid Ontario Drivers License, minimum Class “G”, with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract is required. Abstract completed by Conservation Halton. Successful candidates must provide own CSA approved safety footwear. Partial reimbursement provided in accordance with the Safety Workwear policy.
CH parks are not accessible by public transit; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation.
This role will be required to be available at times outside of regularly scheduled work hours. Available and on call for after hours response, and is required to work a flexible schedule including evenings, overnights, weekends, and Statutory Holidays
