CH Site: Kelso Conservation Area *Must be willing/able to work at any CH designated area

Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Recreation Operations, the Coordinator, Recreation Operations works closely with the management team at Conservation Halton to ensure the maintenance of all trail networks and other recreation-based terrain.

Responsible for installation, operation, and maintenance of existing recreational facilities & infrastructure including Glen Eden Terrain Park; Skiable terrain at Glen Eden – Grooming; Ski terrain Maintenance – vegetation, drainage and erosion control; Existing Park infrastructure – service roads, roadways, parking lots etc.
Responsible for development of new recreational facilities & infrastructure to support park & program needs. Including: Trail building & maintenance efforts, signage & visitor education content, support and execution of new programs and events to drive new revenue streams
Active leadership in risk management program year-round and aligned with industry best practices. To include compliance, reporting, claims management & administration, Insurance renewal
Responsible for budgeted revenues and expense controls relating to all Recreational Facilities and infrastructure including staffing, building supplies, services and fuel
Responsible for the selection, hiring, training and development of Recreation Operations staff, in addition to departmental scheduling and payroll
Coordinate with various internal teams relating to recreational facilities and infrastructure building / maintenance
Accountable to the Manager, Recreation Operations & Senior Management team with contributions towards long term planning and vision-setting
Work with Marketing & Communications team to provide content when needed for promotional and online channels
Contribute to development and implementation of departmental policies, manuals, SOPS, training practices, and schedules
With Coordinator, Trails and Infrastructure, coordinate large scale projects via the trail networks with the equipment operations team.
Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals.

Your Qualifications

College Diploma or University Undergraduate Degree in related field
5+ years’ experience in recreation operations and programming, Terrain Park experience, and Risk Management as a focus
+ 5 years’ technical expertise in freestyle terrain construction (MTB and Ski/Snowboard) + 3 years’ experience in understanding construction methods and construction site awareness + 2 years’ experience in heavy machine operations (Groomers, Tractors, Skid Steers etc.)
Proficient (intermediate to advanced) skier/snowboarder and mountain bike rider
Knowledge of and/or previous experience with trail building and maintenance is preferred
Technical understanding of basic troubleshooting of electrical and hydraulic systems is an asset
Strong leadership & communication skills to support large staff team, diverse offerings and guest needs
Previous experience with staff management in a leadership role
Strong organizational and time management skills to forecast and plan workloads, ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced work environment both independently and in a multidisciplinary team setting
Experience developing and sustaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners
Ability to adapt to the daily challenges associated with Park operations. Resourceful with strong problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to resolve stakeholder inquiries/concerns effectively.
Financial and project management skills are an asset
Formal training and certifications through Ontario Parks Association, IMBA Canada, or Professional Trail building Association, CASI/CSIA are an asset
Strong computer skills. Proficiency with various digital platforms and systems including: MS Office, Dayforce, Survey 123, GIS, Field maps
Able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, on varied terrain.
Successful candidate will be required to have Standard First Aid and CPR certification prior to first day of employment
A valid Ontario Drivers License, minimum Class “G”, with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract is required. Abstract completed by Conservation Halton. Successful candidates must provide own CSA approved safety footwear.Partial reimbursement provided in accordance with the Safety Workwear policy.
CH parks are not accessible by public transit; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation.
This role will be required to be available at times outside of regularly scheduled work hours. Available and on call for after hours response, and is required to work a flexible schedule including evenings, overnights, weekends, and Statutory Holidays
