Job Summary:
The controller position is primarily responsible for the planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operations of the company. This includes assisting and working in collaboration with the CFO to establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financials. The controller helps maintain responsibility for the organization’s accounting practices, fiscal records, and preparation of its financial statements and related reports. Directs and has overall supervisory responsibility for general accounting, payroll functions, internal and external audit coordination, cost accounting systems and information. This position also manages the operational functions of the Accounts Payable area and supervises other Back-office staff. We seek someone who possesses excellent communication skills, has an outgoing nature, can multitask, and boasts high ethical standards.
This position may be based out of either the Watford City or Williston office location.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Duties/Responsibilities:
•Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions for the company.
•Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
•Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements.
•Coordinating activities of external auditors.
•Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process.
•Assist VP of Finance with the budget process.
•Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes.
•Evaluating accounting and internal control systems.
•Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed.
•Developing and monitoring business performance metrics.
•Hiring, training, overseeing, and retaining skilled accounting (and related Back-office) staff.
Daily - Weekly – Monthly Responsibilities (to include but not limited to):
•Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring accuracy.
•Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures.
•In conjunction with the VP of Finance, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
•Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation.
•Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow.
•Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.
•Organize office operations and procedures and provide general support to visitors.
•Coordinate with IT department on all office equipment.
•Manage relationships with vendors and service providers, ensuring that all items are invoiced and paid on time.
•Assign and monitor clerical, administrative, and secretarial responsibilities and tasks among office staff. Coach, mentor, and manage office staff and internal staff relations.
•Allocate available resources to enable successful task performance.
•Design and implement filing systems.

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong communication skills are required to effectively receive and distribute information to other accounting department personnel, operational personnel, vendors, customers, and governmental agencies.
•While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be able to effectively communicate with other employees, managers, and all other relevant third parties involved with the jobs performed. This includes (but may not be limited to) typing, speaking, reading, writing, and hearing.
Education and Experience:
Basic:
•Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
•Minimum of 3 years’ experience in oil and gas accounting.
•Minimum 3 years’ experience as Controller.
•Familiarity with oil and gas-specific accounting functions and tasks: Revenue, material transfers, etc.
•Highly proficient in using accounting software - QuickBooks software and online platforms
•Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (including strong Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point skills).
•Must pass a drug screen, MVR check, and background check pursuant to local, state, and federal rules.
Preferred:
•5 plus years’ experience in oil and gas accounting with an emphasis on service companies preferred.

The incumbent must repeatedly lift and/or move up to 30 (THIRTY) pounds unassisted. Visual acuity, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing must be adequate to perform all required tasks in a safe manner.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Work is usually done indoors and sometimes (rarely) at a client facility or job site. The incumbent may be expected to travel to other work sites with prior notice.
