Job Summary
JDS is a premier provider of water distribution and pipeline infrastructure services in the Southeast. We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to oversee our financial operations and ensure the integrity of our financial reporting. Due to the company's rapid growth, this is a newly created role that will support the CFO and management team. The ideal candidate will have a strong construction background with experience around WIP schedules and be responsible for managing all aspects of accounting, including payroll, accounts receivable, and cash management. This role requires a clear understanding of corporate accounting principles and the ability to utilize various financial software tools to maintain accurate financial records.
Duties
•Manages all accounting functions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, and GAAP general ledger accounting processes.
•Promote teamwork among the accounting staff to ensure work is performed in a collaborative manner and standards for excellent customer service are achieved.
•Readily accepts new opportunities and takes appropriate actions to ensure the work is done; energizes team members to achieve timely results; sets expectations and empowers others to problem solve; demonstrates good judgment; facilitates successful and appropriate solutions.
•Able to act independently, sound decision-making and follow through with minimal supervision.
•Conducts self and holds team to the highest levels of integrity with a strong sense of urgency.
•Prepare monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
•Partner with CFO, senior leadership, and overall organization to develop and report standard financial data sets.
•Take an active role in the purchase accounting and integration for all newly acquired businesses including collaborating with other departments to ensure GAAP and regulatory compliance.
•Ensure compliance with sales and use tax regulations including required returns.
•Maintain appropriate fixed asset ledgers and depreciation calculations.
•Interface with external auditors and manage annual audit.
•Support the preparation and review of the annual budget and other financial plans.
•Assess risk and manage property and liability insurance renewals.
Skills
•Minimum of 5 years of Accounting / Finance experience in construction along with percentage of completion accounting is required.
•Proficient in payroll processing and accounts receivable management.
•Strong knowledge of financial software and accounting systems, Foundation Software is a plus.
•Expertise in cash management techniques and strategies.
•Solid understanding of technical accounting principles and corporate accounting practices.
•Experience with balance sheet reconciliation processes.
•Strong analytical skills for account analysis and problem-solving capabilities.
•Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy in financial reporting.
•Experience integrating acquired entities from an accounting perspective a plus.
•A BS in Accounting or related field required. CPA preferred.
