Brief Description
The Control Room Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all Plant equipment under their control in accordance with written plant procedures and under the direction of the Senior Operations Supervisor. In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the Operator exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in Plant operation. Comply with plant policies including those concerning safety and environmental.
The Bergen Generating Station is a 1401 MW operating power station in Ridgefield New Jersey.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Strictly adhere to all safety and environmental rules and regulations
- Ability to deliver pre and post job briefs / safety toolbox discussions.
- Inform Shift Supervisors / Management Personnel of Plant Configuration and any abnormal conditions.
- Act as the tagging authority in accordance with the approved tagging rules when designated to perform in that capacity.
- Provide local and remote operation through the DCS for monitoring of all Plant equipment. Use Plant Operating procedures, Skill as Trained, and equipment technical manuals to start, stop, adjust or modify equipment.
- Read meters, instruments, gauges, and recording devices at specified intervals to verify Plant operating conditions. Record and analyze operating data for trends.
- Develop Plant reports and summaries from DCS/PI Historian.
- Visually inspect and listens to equipment to assist in determining need for repair or adjustment.
- Ability to interrogate DCS alarms, logic, and plant documentation to diagnose and identify issues.
- Respond to DCS and Local Alarms to take appropriate corrective actions. Report abnormal conditions to direct supervision and plant management.
- Ability to create, prepare, approve, and execute lock out tag outs to facilitate safe work as required by procedure.
- Perform water analysis tests and adjust chemical injection rates to maintain water chemistry within specifications.
- Ability to monitor key plant performance parameters and adjust as required optimizing plant efficiency.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure reliable and efficient use of equipment down time.
- Participate in work scope development and prioritization for corrective actions and scheduling.
- Develop shift reports for turnover, unit availability, plant updates, and unit configuration.
- Ability to identify parts required for assigned tasks and reserve / request accordingly.
- Ability to oversee the work of operations, maintenance team members, and non-company personnel when assigned.
- Request equipment to be cleared and tagged in his/her name for work under his/or her control or for individuals/classifications from other locations or non-company personnel. Ability to act as PIC.
- Prepare necessary documentation associated with work performed under his/her direction.
- Perform ‘minor’ corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance activities on Plant instrumentation, components, and equipment.
- Properly use electrical test equipment and other tools as required.
- Perform ‘minor’ maintenance activities upon equipment by cleaning, adjusting, tightening, aligning, and replacing components as necessary.
- Support the maintenance department by executing maintenance tasks.
- Maintains the cleanliness of assigned areas.
- Records maintenance actions taken on Work Order forms. Communicates lessons learned based on findings.
- Ability to receive Plant inventory and store appropriately in designated locations.
- Ability to receive bulk chemical and oil deliveries.
- Assist the storeroom to support storeroom activities, receipting, issuing, inventory control, and counting as defined by procedure.
- Ability to operate equipment required to complete assigned tasks
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2+ years Power Generation experience preferred.- Must meet the Company's "General Requirements".
- Must be able to acquire a thorough knowledge of established operating procedures, rules and instructions pertaining to the duties he/she will perform.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the layout, operation, function, and location of equipment in the Station and be able to diagram and explain the operation of that equipment.
- Must be able to acquire a thorough knowledge of the mechanical principles of power plant equipment in a reasonable time.
- Must be able to acquire a thorough knowledge of systems, drawings and tools required to perform assigned duties in a reasonable time.
- Must be a careful and thorough worker and produce work of high quality.
- Must be able to acquire the principals of instruments and control apparatus of power plant equipment in a reasonable time.
- Must obtain any certificates or licenses required by Federal, State, or local authority in a reasonable time, and must maintain such licenses. The training will be paid for and provided by the Company and changes shall be subject to Article X.B. of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Must have successfully completed the appropriate pre-employment tests except that an employee hired prior to May 1, 1977, who has or obtains a high school diploma, or its equivalent does not have to complete the pre-employment tests.
- Must demonstrate during the first six months of employment:
- Ability to follow simple instructions and carry out routine assignments
- Aptitude for operations, technical and mechanical work
- Keen faculties of observation
- The ability to receive and transmit telephone messages
- Must be able to qualify for an automobile driver's license as to operate vehicles in the state of New Jersey.
- Must be capable of assuming the supervisory responsibilities related to the work he/she will perform.
- Must be cooperative and be able to communicate information and instructions in a clear and concise manner.
- Must have had previous operations experience.
Summary
Applicants must possess a
valid driver's licenseand maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
