Job Summary
Incumbents in this position are responsible for assisting in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems. This position is assigned to pay grade G11.
Essential Job Functions
•Installs and repairs water and wastewater lines, manholes, and infrastructure
•Responds to and repairs water and wastewater line breaks and leaks.
•Responds to emergency situations.
•Completes work to minimize the impact of our water and sewer on the environment and the public.
•Establishes safe work zones, including conducting job hazard assessments, developing strategies to minimize risks, following OSHA guidelines, reporting safety issues, and using proper PPE.
•Sets up traffic control and directs traffic according to NCDOT and MUTCD guidelines.
•Follows NC811 guidelines to understand underground utility hazards and dig safely.
•Performs general repairs to landscaping and concrete sidewalks.
•Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
•Assists in the maintenance of equipment and supply inventory.
•Assists in determining parts and materials required for various repair work.
•Operates job related tools and equipment including vehicles.
•Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions - Construction Division
•Follows water quality standards and procedures to ensure safe drinking water quality.
•Works rotating after hours on call standby shifts, including holidays and weekends.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Education, Experience, and Other Requirements
•Education and Experience:
•High school diploma or GED.
•Six (6) months general work experience
Certifications:
Construction:
•Possession of a North Carolina Water Distribution System Operator Certification is preferred.
•This position will be placed on an On-Call rotation that requires a response within 30 minutes of notification.
