CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT / SITE SAFETY & HEALTH OFFICER (SSHO)

About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent / Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee federal construction operations from start to finish. In this dual-role, you’ll provide on‑site leadership, safety oversight, coordination, and documentation for multiple federal projects across California.
Key Responsibilities
Superintendent Duties
•Provide day‑to‑day on‑site supervision, ensuring work stays on schedule and within budget
•Collaborate with Project Managers, subcontractors, and vendors to execute project plans
•Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and RFP documents to identify and resolve issues
•Coordinate and document all site activities—including tradesmen, deliveries, equipment, and visitors
•Conduct regular inspections to verify compliance with contract specs, drawings, building codes, and quality standards
SSHO Duties
•Monitor site safety and health conditions daily; conduct equipment and site inspections
•Enforce compliance with company safety policies, OSHA, and EM385‑1‑1 regulations
•Lead tailgate/toolbox talks, prepare Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA/JHA), and ensure proper PPE usage
•Investigate and document safety incidents, near‑misses, and corrective actions
•Partner with Corporate Safety Officers and client safety personnel to continuously improve safety performance
Professional Qualifications
•5+ years’ experience as a Construction Superintendent or closely related role
•Deep understanding of construction best practices, methods, and sequencing
•Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, contract documents, and technical plans
•Strong knowledge of OSHA and EM385‑1‑1 requirements
•Proven leadership skills with accountability for project delivery and team performance
•Excellent communication and client‑partnering abilities
•Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment
•Clean driver’s license; able to pass background checks for federal site access
•Fluent in English (reading and writing)
Physical Requirements
•Must navigate the entire job site—indoors and outdoors—often on uneven terrain and elevated structures
•Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, and access all areas of the site
•Capable of lifting/moving up to 75 lbs occasionally
•Manual dexterity for using computers, mobile devices, and field equipment
•Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and balance as needed
