Role Description

Work Location: 1000 El Camino Real, Millbrae, CA

Work Hours: 7:30am -4:30pm

Project: Regional Dam Repair and Replacement Projects

Under general supervision, performs dam safety monitoring and inspection of SFPUC’s regional dam facility in accordance with California Department Safety of Dams guidelines and regulations. Duties include but are not limited to: conducting periodic inspection of dam, spillway, outlet pipe and structure, valve system and control, instruments such as piezometer, inclinometer, seismic sensor, level sensor, weather station, electronic and telemetry equipment, etc; creating detailed documentation of inspection; troubleshooting electronic and power equipment; collecting instrumentation readings manually, downloading from remote terminal unit, or via personal computer; producing instrumentation data report and inspection report; producing and following through equipment repair and maintenance repair work order; processing maintenance contract; documenting and tracking repair and maintenance task progress; carrying out periodic DSOD inspection, tracking periodic equipment testing; collaborating with engineers to form scope for facility maintenance, upgrades and improvements; reviewing data produce report.

Essential Functions

Monitors and inspects facilities in accordance with State Department of Safety of Dams
Prepares project documentation including daily reports, monthly reports, annual reports, valve or equipment testing, and other maintenance or repair progress records.
Participates in and/or conducts planning, coordination, progress, scheduling and field staff meetings.
Researches and reviews facility plans, specifications, historic records and documents
Assists with coordination of in-house operation and maintenance groups and with DSOD
Ensures that all required tests, operations, measurements, and inspections are scheduled, ordered, satisfactorily completed and documented for quality assurance/quality control
Maintains records of inspection, valve test, DSOD correspondence, maintenance repairs, and data report
Conducts and/or witnesses exercise of valve
Reports safety hazards and prepare work order for correction
Drives a vehicle to inspection sites.
Plans and reviews work scope for repair and maintenance on the regional dam.
Initiates contact and follow thru with Bureau of Environmental Management for CEQA process.
Performing all other duties as required.

How To Qualify

If you are interested in a job like this, we are looking for people that have the following:

Two (2) years of verifiable full-time experience in City and County of San Francisco class 6317 Assistant Construction Inspector; OR

Four (4) years of verifiable full-time experience in construction inspection work ensuring that plans and specifications are complied with, and the workmanship and material used meet specifications.

AND:

Possession of a valid California Driver’s License

Substitution

A baccalaureate degree in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited college or university and/or experience as an Engineer on a level equal to City and County of San Francisco class 5203 Assistant Engineer or as an Architect on a level equal to City and County of San Francisco class 5265 Architectural Associate I or higher may substitute for up to two years of the required experience under Minimum Qualification #2.
Two (2) years of verifiable full-time experience as a surveyor may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience under Minimum Qualification #2.
Experience in construction, at the Superintendent/General Foreman level, supervising construction crews of more than six may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience on a year for year basis. Journey level construction experience and/or drafting experience will not be accepted as qualifying under Minimum Qualification #2.
Possession of an associate degree in construction or engineering from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience under Minimum Qualification #2.

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Desirable Qualifications: The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring

Experience working in Public Works or commercial construction projects as project engineer, resident engineering, office engineer, design engineer, or construction inspector.

Possession of Bachelor’s degree in a science field
Experience working in computer programs and using electronics: Autocad, Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Access, Acrobat PDF.
