Job Overview
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Construction Estimator & Project Engineer to join our growing team. This individual will play a key role in preconstruction, cost estimating, vendor scoping, and supporting project execution for both traditional construction and panelized/prefab projects. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple complex bids and project scopes simultaneously.
Duties
Estimating (60%)
•Prepare detailed takeoffs and cost estimates (hardscape, framing, MEP, finishes, etc.) for custom residential and panelized projects.
•Analyze architectural, structural, civil, and MEP plans for completeness and accuracy.
•Develop project budgets based on schematic designs, design development, and construction drawings.
•Coordinate subcontractor bid solicitation, review proposals, and build bid-leveling spreadsheets.
•Maintain and update unit pricing, subcontractor/vendor database, and historical cost library.
•Create and track value engineering options for client and internal review.
Project Engineering (40%)
•Support Project Managers with submittals, RFI tracking, and schedule coordination.
•Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants to clarify scope and resolve constructibility issues.
•Assist with permitting, plan check submissions, and pre construction checklists.
•Track cost changes and help maintain budget controls throughout construction.
•Prepare project schedules (Gantt charts) and assist in construction logistics planning.
Experience
•5+ years of experience in residential or commercial estimating and project engineering.
•Proficiency in PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Excel, and construction scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, BuilderTrend, Smartsheet).
•Strong understanding of California construction codes, permitting processes, and subcontractor scopes.
•Experience with both traditional and panelized/prefabricated construction (a strong plus).
•Ability to read and interpret architectural, civil, and structural drawings.
•Clear communication skills with subcontractors, designers, clients, and internal teams.
