Position Summary
The Demo & Dirt & Underground Utilities Estimator/ Project Manager is responsible for analyzing project specifications, preparing accurate cost estimates, and completing bid submissions for site development, excavation, and underground utility installation. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of demo, earthwork, grading, drainage, sewer, water, and storm utility systems, along with expertise in estimating software (Insite or Procore) and blueprint analysis.
Key Responsibilities
•Estimate Development: Prepare detailed cost estimates for dirt work, excavation, and underground utility installations (water, sewer, storm).
•Bid Management: Analyze project plans, specifications, and scope of work to create competitive bids.
•Takeoffs & Quantity Calculations: Perform material, labor, and equipment takeoffs using estimating software.
•Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate supplier/subcontractor quotes for pricing accuracy.
•Site Evaluations: Conduct on-site assessments to evaluate project feasibility, risks, and logistical challenges.
•Cost Analysis: Track material, labor, and equipment costs to ensure project profitability.
•Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and engineers to refine estimates.
•Software Utilization: Utilize Insite, Procore, Agtek, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar to optimize estimating accuracy.
•Compliance & Regulations: Ensure estimates comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to excavation and utilities.
Qualifications & Experience
✔ 5+ years of experience in estimating dirt work, excavation, or underground utilities.
✔ Strong understanding of grading, trenching, compaction, and utility installation best practices.
✔ Proficiency in estimating software (HCSS, Bluebeam, Agtek, PlanSwift, AutoCAD).
✔ Ability to read and interpret blueprints, civil plans, and geotechnical reports.
✔ Strong negotiation and communication skills with general contractors, developers, and municipalities.
✔ Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and excavation best practices.
✔ Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred (but not required).
