Concrete Carpenter

About This Job

As a Carpenter, this position is responsible for providing carpentry skills for Russell Marine, LLC’s marine or railroad projects. The Carpenter will perform a variety of tasks related to pouring concrete in the construction or repair of marine terminals, dock facilities, and/or railroad bridges.


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing concrete forms.
Use hand or power tools to shape, cut, sharpen, smooth, and finish surfaces.
Reading dimensions from plans and drawings to determine the size and shape of required materials.
Tie reinforcing steel and assist in concrete placement as required, including the construction of decks, bulkheads/seawalls, and other structures.
Work with and assist crew in excavation activities which may include: hoisting material, tools and equipment, cleaning and preparing the work site, digging trenches, setting braces and/or forms, shoveling concrete and/or dirt into construction areas, clean-up of rubble and debris, and removal of waste materials.
Maintain a clean job site: picks up all tools and equipment and secure the job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
Perform other related duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be willing/eligible to obtain one upon hire.
Experience: 6 months to 1 year of general carpentry experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Thorough knowledge of carpentry materials and safe work practices of the carpentry craft, and specializing in concrete. Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certification(s): Completion of an apprenticeship or on-the-job training program.
Experience: 5+ years of concrete-specific carpentry and/or carpentry finisher experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): General knowledge in the marine or railroad construction industry. Bilingual (English and Spanish).


WORKING CONDITIONS

The individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal floatation devices (PFD), and/or other protective equipment as required.
The individual frequently works near moving mechanical parts and must be able to adapt to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
The individual may be required to work long hours and/or weekends. Additionally, some out-of-town or overnight travel may be required.
The individual may be required to walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
The individual may occasionally be required to stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, or sit for long periods.
The individual may be required to perform repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in the performance of work.
The individual may be required to work in confined spaces, climb vertical ladders of a height of 6 ft. or greater, and/or elevated heights.
The individual may be required to lift objects with a minimum of 10 lbs. and a maximum single-person lift of 50 lbs. This could result in frequent lifting or carrying depending on project needs.
