The Community Relations Representative implements Oglethorpe Power Corporation's (OPC) community relations activities to meet our commitment to being an active corporate citizen and responsible neighbor in the cities and counties where the company owns and operates generation assets. In coordination with the Community and External Affairs Manager, the position serves as one of OPC's primary liaisons at the local level. The position will provide community relations support for communities where OPC already owns assets and new areas where we are building new generation assets.
Job Duties:
•Implement OPC's community relations activities where OPC has assets and in new construction communities. This includes building and maintaining relationships with local elected leaders, business and school system leaders, private landowners, OPC plant managers, attending meetings, events, planning and coordinating OPC plant tours, and more. Frequent travel to meet with key stakeholders such as county commissioners, mayors, chamber of commerce executives, development authorities, local school system leaders, local nonprofit organizations, and private landowners. Represent OPC at community events such as chamber of commerce meetings, school system award receptions, philanthropic check presentations, and host OPC plant tours for the community.
•Act as a direct point of contact for private landowners and neighbors of OPC assets who have questions or concerns.
•Review requests for charitable giving in asset communities and make recommendations to ensure philanthropic investments align with company priorities, values, and OPC's community charitable giving budget.
•Establish relationships and work closely with OPC's member cooperatives on community outreach programs, presentations, events, with a focus on those that serve in OPC asset communities.
•Provide organizational and logistical support for many External Affairs special events, i.e.: annual charity golf tournament.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or Public Policy preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in community or government relations; same level of experience in state or federal government service, public relations, or economic development may be considered. Work experience or knowledge of the electric utility industry or rural electric cooperatives is preferred but not required.
