The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission (Commission) is seeking a versatile and motivated Communications Specialist to join its dynamic organization in Agawam, MA. Commission employees protect public health and the environment for 250,000 people by providing drinking water and wastewater service and stewarding the Commission’s expansive watershed and water infrastructure. The Commission is a multi-disciplinary work organization with a current portfolio of large, ongoing infrastructure renewal projects and a workforce dedicated to reliable daily operations and service. The Commission is looking for a mission-oriented professional to join a team committed to helping customers maintain their trust in and understand the value of their water. The Communication Specialist works as part of the three-member Communications Team to support the Commission’s internal and external programming, including updating and maintaining associated resources and materials and facilitating outreach activities.
The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of communications experience in a professional work environment. Experience working on environmental issues or in the water sector specifically is desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and verbal and written communication skills are required. The successful candidate must be able to work independently but aligned to the work of the department and the Commission. A cover letter (letter of interest) is a required part of the application. This is a full time position and the typical hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:00, although the Communications Specialist may be needed to work outside of the typical work day or work week during an emergency or a scheduled public event. The hiring salary range is $59,000-$62,000. The Commission offers a competitive compensation package including 3 weeks of vacation, 13 paid holidays, paid sick and personal time, pension, and an affordable health/dental plan. The successful applicant will be required to complete a pre-employment drug test and physical as well as a pre-employment criminal background check. Employment at the Commission is considered public sector employment and time here may be eligible for certain types of student loan forgiveness (check with your lender).
