Universal EV Chargers is the leading ChargePoint Operator in Illinois, specializing in commercial EV charging installations, maintenance, and sustainable green technologies. Our mission is to expand the adoption of clean energy solutions while ensuring financial viability for our clients.
We’re seeking experienced Commercial EV Installers to join our Illinois deployment team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for installing, testing, and commissioning EV charging stations at commercial properties. If you have a background in solar installation or electrical trades, your skills are highly transferable and will be valued here. You’ll work alongside project managers, electricians, and field crews to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality installations.
- Attend daily safety meetings and follow strict site-specific protocols.
- Install racking, mounting, and charging hardware per manufacturer specifications and local codes.
- Wire and connect AC/DC electrical systems according to project plans.
- Commission EV charging stations, perform operational testing, and complete documentation.
- Identify and communicate issues or field changes to the Project Manager.
- Safely operate tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment as required.
- Support the team with additional tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Valid Driver’s License with clean MVR (required to operate company vehicles).
- Apprentice Electrical License (preferred).
- OSHA 10 (required); OSHA 30 (preferred).
- Prior EV charging or solar installation experience strongly preferred.
- Electrical background or related trade experience highly recommended.
- Understanding of local electrical codes and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with EV or PV system design, components, and large-scale installations.
- Experience in related trades (roofing, carpentry, conduit bending, metal framing, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring schematics, and technical manuals.
- Skilled in using electrical testing equipment and troubleshooting systems.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to safely drive and maneuver trucks and trailers.
- Comfortable working at heights, on rooftops, and outdoors.
- Ability to lift 50–75+ lbs routinely.- Capable of bending, squatting, and performing physically demanding tasks.
