Position Summary
This position manages the Asphalt Commercial West group reporting to the Asphalt Value Chain Senior Director. The position leads a team responsible for commercial operations in multi-state area, based in Tempe Arizona. The leader collaborates broadly across the Asphalt organization as well as Terminals, Credit, Business Development, and Refining organizations.
Key Responsibilities
•Develops and oversees contract offerings and relationship development with Commercial customers within multi-state region.
•Formulates and recommends long and short-range plans to optimize the profitable sale of refined light/asphalt products to end user customers. Establishes the necessary controls, communicates controls to the region sales force to assure the consistent administration of programs and plans throughout the assigned region.
•Plays a lead role in communicating competitor supply situations and develops, recommends, and executes short- and long-term adjustments to optimize supply and profitability for MPC based on current market dynamics.
•Develops and recommends contract product pricing that adheres to company policies based on internal and external factors. Develops and recommends contract offerings that adhere to company policies based on internal and external factors, including but not limited to contract bids for business with region customers.
•Conducts a continuous campaign to acquire or expand customer accounts; sells products to accounts and provides related services under region policy. Attends state and national trade association functions to aid in this effort.
•Manages the customer base to enhance the market position and directs team to work with customers to profitably increase sales, resolve related problems, investigate, and solve product complaints, assists in the development of regional promotion strategies and provides advice on product applications in conjunction with the Technology component (Asphalt).
•Directs the activities of the region sales force ensuring it is current on industry and legislation issues affecting customers and the industry in general.
•Reports industry-related activities to the division to keep company programs and plans in line with actual market happenings. Guides and directs information flow to and from field personnel to achieve corporate and region goals. Interacts with individuals within the company and the marketplace to keep abreast of industry climate.
•Plans region meetings to train, inform, and motivate region personnel. Uses resources available to ensure personal development of region sales force and analysts.
•Cultivates, develops, and maintains relationships with customers.
•Carries on the finance and administrative activities necessary to conduct the primary functions of the region through the assistance of the Region Coordinating Manager/analysts.
Education and Experience
•Bachelor’s degree required.
•Ten (10) years of industry or related experience required
