Description
The Commercial Design and Estimation Associate is responsible for supporting the Commercial Design and Estimation team by providing accurate research and estimates for new commercial project opportunities.The Commercial Solutions Design and Estimation Associate also prepares required documentation to execute the project once the opportunities are closed/sold. The Commercial Solutions Design and Estimation Associate will periodically coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers and generally assists the Design team. Graduates and current students working toward a degree in engineering, construction management, design, or other related field are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions
•Support in maintaining pricing on estimating and take-off tools.
•Collaborate with internal teams to translate customer needs into design configurations with competitive pricing and high quality products.
•Create reliable and accurate estimates that meet or exceed the company’s gross margin targets.
•Partner with Purchasing and Operations teams to research and source non-standard products.
•Collect building measurements, create 3D renderings, and prepare sketchups and layout files with applicable information.
•Learn building codes, electrical codes, and zoning ordinances and how they influence solar design.
•Process engineering submissions.
•Create monitoring accounts.
•Calculate production using PV Watts.
•Timely manage customer-requested revisions for preliminary designs.
•Visit job sites for quality assurance and design compliance as needed.
•Perform other relevant administrative tasks and assist team members as needed.

Skills/Qualifications
•0-2 years of experience in design, estimation, or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
•Previous experience in construction (preferred).
•Tech-savvy with experience in CAD, bill of material generation, workflow documentation, or other related softwares and experience.
•Proficient in Google Suite/Google Workspace (Slides, Sheets, Calendar, Forms, Docs, Gmail).
•Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
•Strong communication skills for cross-functional and internal collaboration.
•Exceptional analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements
•Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer (frequent).
•Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times (infrequent).
•Ability to type at least 60 words per minute (frequent).
•Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
Compensation & Benefits
•This is a full-time non-exempt/hourly (overtime eligible) position with an expected base pay range of $19.00 - $24.00 (depending on qualifications and experience).
Hybrid: This position is eligible to work a combination of in-office work at AES headquarters (St. Paul, MN) requirement and remote/work-from-home eligibility (
Note: this is subject to change by management based on company and business needs, may or may not be eligible until 90+ days of employment/training period completion, will be determined and agreed on by management and employee, and contingent upon employees being in good standing).
