The Commercial Construction Helper assists in the setup, execution, and breakdown of construction projects, ensuring that job sites are organized, safe, and equipped for smooth operations. This role supports skilled tradespeople with a variety of tasks including material handling, equipment setup, jobsite cleanup, and safety oversight. Ideal candidates should be proactive, physically capable, and willing to take on a range of tasks to contribute to the success of the project.
Roles and Responsibilities:
•Safety & Compliance: Follow all company safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment. Report safety hazards and violations to the safety supervisor immediately.
•Fabrication: Help Shop Manager with sheet metal fabrication requests.
•Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport tools and materials to and from the job site. Stage, organize, and inventory materials for the project.
•Jobsite Setup & Breakdown: Assist in setting up equipment and tools at the start of each shift and assist in breaking down at the end of the day.
•Equipment Assistance: Help with the layout and installation of equipment, supporting skilled tradespeople.
•Shop Support: Aid the Shop Manager for daily tasks to include material loading/unloading, inventory management, deliveries, order pickup, cleaning and organization, and general tasks.
•Heavy Equipment Support: Aid in the setting of equipment using boom trucks, forklifts, or other construction vehicles.
•Clean-Up & Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized work environment by performing daily jobsite cleanup and ensuring vehicles and work areas are free of debris.
•Collaboration: Provide support to other company crews and trades as needed, working as a team to keep projects moving forward efficiently.
•Communication: Maintain daily communication with your direct supervisor, providing updates on progress and reporting issues or delays.
•Timekeeping: Accurately track time worked and submit weekly timesheets on time.
•Physical Tasks: Perform tasks that require physical strength and stamina, including lifting materials up to 60 lbs., climbing stairs and ladders, and working in challenging environments.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Must have valid driver’s license
•Good verbal and written communication skills
•Extremely detail oriented
•Ability to work with various hand and power tools, adhesives, sealants, caulking or coating products
•Ability to quickly identify problems and efficiently solve them
•Ability to work independently and effectively manage time
•Roofing, Drywall/Finishing, Carpentry, Door/Hardware Experience Preferred
•Must be able to sit, stand, kneel for long periods of time in extreme weather conditions
•Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the construction site safely in all types of weather
•Must be able to set up and climb ladders
•Must be comfortable working at high elevations
•Must be able to lift to 50lbs at times
Preferred Experience, skills and Abilities:
•Prior experience in either general construction or a specialized field
•Experience pulling a trailer preferred, but not required
•Roofing, Drywall/Finishing, Carpentry, Door/Hardware Experience Preferred
