The Customer Project Engineer (CPE) is an individual contributor accountable for providing engineering support to 3-phase commercial customers over 1000 kW of demand load focusing on complex jobs that may involve ATO, vaults and substation work. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, project scheduling, review of design and engineering tasks, project reporting, project financial analysis, planning and overseeing project execution and communicating and maintaining relationships with internal and external customers, vendors, townships and regulatory agencies. This position interacts routinely with key internal and external stakeholders including senior management, the Utility’s largest customers, and governmental and regulatory officials.
Management of large customer distribution projects, with minimum supervision. The Customer Project Engineer (CPE) is responsible for managing the scope, schedule, budget, construction, project closeout and safety performance of multiple projects. These projects have budgets that will typically range from $100K to $25M+. Also, may manage business initiative projects with direct accountability for project execution while leading a team to accomplish objectives within a given time frame and with limited resources. Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies. This position is classified as remote hybrid and requires some in person meetings and customer site visits within the ComEd territory.
Responsible and accountable for overall project performance for projects including major distribution construction and organizational initiatives.
Ensures project costs, schedule and scope are managed to stay within approved limits. Interface with external and internal stakeholders to coordinate project requirements.
Primary communicator with the customer and key stakeholders on project issues.
Ensures a good working relationship between the project team, line managers, and interfacing organizations.
Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest, make recommendations for business decisions regarding strategy for new technologies and or engineering techniques and tools.
