CNC Mill Operator 1-4

- GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

CNC Machinists 1–4 are responsible for the operation and setup of CNC machines in accordance with safety and quality standards. As employees gain experience and demonstrate proficiency, they are expected to take on more complex setups, perform program edits, and support continuous improvement efforts. All machinists are expected to inspect their parts and contribute to overall team productivity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES ARE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

- CNC Machinist 1:

- Load/unload machines and materials.

- Perform Mid-level machine setups with some assistants.

- Operate multiple machines under supervision.

- Clean and deburr parts as required.

- Perform basic inspections using calipers and micrometers.

- Follow layout sheets, routers, and production instructions.

- Maintain machine cleanliness and fluid levels.

- Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks.

- Track part counts and scrap.

- Follow all safety procedures and quality standards.

CNC Machinist 2 (In addition to Level 1 duties):

- Perform mid-level machine setups.

- Troubleshoot tooling issues and make basic offset adjustments.

- Create or revise setup sheets.

- Use blueprints and drawings to verify dimensions and tolerances.

- Conduct machine recovery after minor faults or crashes.

- Escalate tooling issues to leads or programming.

CNC Machinist 3 (In addition to Level 2 duties):

- Perform complex setups independently.

- Edit part programs to meet specifications.

- Prove out new or unproven programs.

- Train entry-level machinists on setup and operation.

- Conduct basic machine repair and maintenance.

- Collaborate with programming and engineering to resolve issues.

CNC Machinist 4 (In addition to Level 3 duties):

- Lead advanced setups and prototypes.

- Recommend process improvements and tooling changes.

- Mentor machinists at all lower levels.

- Resolve complex troubleshooting situations.

- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

- Provide feedback on job readiness, setups, and documentation.

JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS:

- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

- Use of measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).

- Understanding of CNC offsets, tooling, and machining principles.

- Basic to advanced troubleshooting (increasing by level).

- Strong communication and teamwork skills.

- Willingness to work independently or with minimal supervision.

- Ability to stand for long periods and work in a shop environment.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Education & Experience Requirements

Machinist 1 - High school diploma or equivalent; 0–2 years CNC experience

Machinist 2 - 2 to 4 years CNC machining; knowledge of basic setups and offsets

Machinist 3 - 4 to 6 years CNC machining and setup; experience with program edits

Machinist 4 - 6+ years CNC machining; proven leadership and advanced troubleshooting

- Familiarity with stainless, aluminum, plastics, brass, and castings

- Completion of Manufacturing Technology coursework preferred

- Experience with CNC mills, lathes, and automated machinery desirable

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $34.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
