Summary
CNC Machine Lead/Set-up performs all the job duties, pre-requisites of the CNC Operator Level I, II, III and can perform all the tasks proficiently. In addition to CNC Level III tasks, the CNC lead/Set-up will lead a shift of CNC machine operators, perform additional tasks and have additional job knowledge. This position is on 2nd shift. Mon- Thurs 4pm to 2 am.
Lead and monitor team dynamics to support them and maintain a positive team culture.
Delegate and assign tasks to team members and organize work environment to improve productivity.
Manage team performance and guide them towards meeting performance goals.
Lead initiatives to motivate the team to work as effectively and efficiently as possible.
Regular on-site attendance/punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
Successfully setup proven / existing programs and processes with minimum supervision / guidance.
Proficiency in setting up vertical CNC three and multi axis machining centers with multi-part holding fixtures including defining work and tool offsets.
Setup and measurement of tooling in a variety of holders.
Will make tooling recommendations and troubleshoot tooling problems.
Will make or direct minor modifications to tooling.
Ability to read and edit part programs to establish initial set-up and mapping the machine out for production readiness.
Basic troubleshooting skills in identifying/resolving part tolerance issues caused by various setup, programming, tooling issues.
Strong communication skills and ability to work in fast paced team environment while maintaining professionalism under tight deadlines.
Familiarity with variety of materials including, steel, stainless steel, aluminum and brass.
Maintain inventory by verifying and performing necessary completion transactions in ERP system.
Train operators on best practices with both machine operation and quality inspection methods.
Ability to perform calculating requirements, including basic math proving part dimensions.
Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces, adhering to control plan standards.
Maintains specifications by taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations. Testing of safety features of a machine during set-up.
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Familiarity and understanding of basic Lean principles including 5S and Visual Management
Operate machines when set-up work is complete.
Basic and Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) two -year technical degree is preferred.
Minimum 5 years- experience as a CNC Machine Operator Level III or equivalent.
Machinist apprenticeship highly desired.
Has operated Vertical Machining (including multi axis).
Can set-up and map out effectively with minimal supervision on CNC verticals machines.
Proven ability to read programs and make changes to speeds and feeds as well as making fixture offsets without supervision.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) with the exception of lunch and break periods.Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours
The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing area where frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts, containers, and materials up to 30 pounds.
Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle movement.
