The Class B Driver at Metalico is responsible for safely operating a straight or lugger truck (with a roll off or lugger box). In addition, the Driver is responsible for ensuring his or her vehicle follows the Company’s safety standards prior to operating the vehicle, ensures that all Company, state and federal regulations (DOT guidelines) are adhered to at all times while operating the vehicle. The driver’s position can be physically demanding (will be responsible for loading/unloading at client sites) and requires attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety. The driver’s responsibilities involve delivery and pick-up, reporting, operations service, safety and maintenance of equipment.
Essential Job Functions
•Drives trucks in a safe manner at all times, ensuring that every trip is completed in accordance with DOT regulations, and speed limits, and free of accidents.
•Responsible for monitoring road and traffic conditions at all times to prevent accidents.
•Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections on every truck driven daily.
•Completes required paperwork accurately and turns paperwork daily at the end of each workday.
•Responsible for appropriately distributing and tying down all loads to ensure safety, using tarps as required. Drivers are responsible for their load.
•Picks up and delivers containers at customer sites on a timely and efficient basis.
•Provides customers with appropriate paperwork and has work orders signed off by customers.
•Responsible for maneuvering trucks at the customer’s site in a safe and accident-free manner at all times.
•The driver will utilize time at a customer site efficiently in a manner that maximizes productivity.
•Monitors mechanical functions of the truck to ensure that the truck is maintained in accordance with maintenance schedules.
•Knows materials and what they are allowed to haul and what not to haul (hazardous materials).
•This position makes safety a top priority and looks for opportunities to improve safety, follows all safety rules, and wears appropriate PPE at all times. Participates in mandatory monthly safety meetings.
•Communicates to the manager any customer concerns or any other concern the driver may have.
•Communicates to the manager immediately any accidents that may have happened with or without damage or any damage done at a customer's facility.
•Personally maintains a record of acceptable attendance and punctuality.
Qualifications

•Current Driver’s License/Medical Card required.
•Class B license required.
•Roll Off experience is preferred.
•High school diploma or equivalent or a combination of experience & technical training.
•Must be 21 years of age or older
•5 years CDL truck driving preferred.
•2 years scrap metal industry experience preferred.
•Legally eligible to work in the United States.
•Safe driving record and history
•Must not have any DUI’s within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
•Must not have any license suspensions within the last 2 years.
•No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
•Must successfully complete and pass pre-employment testing (drug and physical essential functions).
•Strong verbal communication skills; will be in contact with internal dispatch personnel as well as customer representatives
•Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
•Able to count and perform basic math.
•Must be able to satisfy all DOT QA file requirements and paperwork
•Must have ability to wear/use approved applicable safety equipment, as needed.
•Performance of other duties deemed by management to be an integral part of the job.
