Civil Construction Estimator

Peters Excavating, Inc. is looking for an experienced Construction Estimator. We are a small, family-owned General Engineering Contractor that specializes in grading, paving and underground utilities for residential and commercial properties, and public works projects.

Required Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:

· Highly motivated, organized and detail-oriented with excellent follow-through.

· Great verbal and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate and maintain a positive relationship with vendors, subcontractors, and clients.

· Self-starter and able to work independently.

· Strong time management skills.

· Strong analytical and mathematical skills

· Ability to read plans/interpret schematics.

· Strong knowledge of General Engineering, Grading, Paving, Underground and all associated construction methods and materials.

· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

· Understanding of construction codes, standards and safety requirements.

Responsibilities:

· Review project plans, specifications, and other documents to determine the scope of work and materials required.

· Seek out bid opportunities and coordinate with clients, general contractors, project engineers, homeowners, etc.

· Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and identify potential challenges or opportunities.

· Analyze labor, material, and equipment costs to develop comprehensive estimates.

· Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure competitiveness and compliance with project requirements.

· Submit pre-bid RFI’s for clarification.

· Create detailed take-offs for all aspects of the project.

· Preparation of competitive bids based on project requirements. Including all labor, equipment, materials and subcontractors.

· Prepare bid packages and submit proposals to clients in a timely manner.

· Preparation of job costs to analyze profit and overhead of each job

· Review contracts to ensure scope of work aligns with bids

· Work with project managers and foreman to handoff awarded projects and ensuring the team has complete understanding of the scope of work.

Education & Experience:

· High School diploma or equivalent

· Proven experience as an estimator in the construction industry.

· Experience using take-off software required. (Insite & HeavyBid)

· Experience estimating Public Works projects is a must.

· 3-5 years minimum experience estimating large scale construction jobs ($400,000+).

· Experience using Trimble Siteworks & Trimble GPS software is a plus.

· Experience using Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.

· We will provide training for the right person

Pay is $80,000 to $120,000 a year, depending on experience
