Civil Carpenter
Saber Power Services, LLC, (SPS) located in Houston, TX is a nationally recognized full service, EPC, specialty engineering, procurement, construction and testing and commissioning company specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure in North America.
The Civil Carpenter will support the construction and maintenance of high voltage substations and related infrastructure by performing skilled carpentry work. This role requires experience working with concrete forms, structural woodwork, and general site preparation. The ideal candidate will have a strong safety mindset, the ability to work in physically demanding environments, and experience in utility-scale or industrial civil construction.
Key Responsibilities:
•Build, assemble, and install wood or metal forms for concrete foundations, footings, walls, and equipment pads at substations and utility sites.
•Cut, shape, fasten lumber and other materials using hand and power tools.
•Assist in setting forms to grade and layout from construction drawings or verbal instruction.
•Work alongside civil crews in trenching, backfilling, rebar placement, and concrete pouring.
•Interpret blueprints, construction plans, and job specifications.
•Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring proper use and storage.
•Adhere to safety procedures and regulatory compliance at all times.
•Assist in site prep, fencing, embedded steel installation, and other general construction activities as needed.
•Coordinate with civil superintendents, foremen, and field crews to ensure high-quality construction execution.
Requirements:
•2 years of experience in industrial or utility civil carpentry (concrete formwork, heavy wood framing, etc.)
•Experience with substation or power utility projects preferred
•Must be able to read and understand construction drawings and schematics
•Strong knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and materials used in carpentry
•OSHA 10 (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
•Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions
•Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to project sites as required
Preferred:
•CDL or ability to operate light equipment a plus
•Experience working in a high voltage environment or around electrical infrastructure
•First Aid/CPR Certification
