We are seeking qualified individuals for the role of Central Services Shop Supervisor. Please note that this is not a fly-in, fly-out position and will be based in Labrador West, NL. This position will require candidates to work a Monday-Friday schedule that will transition to 7/7 all days.
- Champion and enforce all workplace safety protocols and conduct regular “Take Five” safety assessments per shift or when job conditions change.
- Interpret and work from isometric drawings and P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams) to ensure precision in fabrication and machining tasks.
- Plan and lay out machining and fabrication operations by computing dimensions and determining the most efficient method and sequence of operations.
- Oversee daily fabrication and machining activities to ensure custom precision parts and components meet strict quality and dimensional standards.
- Set up, program, and operate a range of equipment including:
- Lathes
- Milling Machines
- Boring Mills
- Radial Arm Drill Presses
- Plasma Tables
- Metal shaping machinery (e.g., brakes, shears, benders)
- Manage material flow through the shop by staging materials and monitoring inventory levels.
- Coordinate and schedule shop floor activities to meet production targets and delivery deadlines.
- Supervise and mentor shop personnel, delegating tasks based on skill level and workload priorities.
- Operate and oversee the use of forklifts and overhead cranes to ensure safe material handling.
- Perform inspections and quality checks on fabricated components before delivery or assembly.
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed for shop machinery and equipment.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality control, and management to resolve technical or production issues.
- Maintain detailed production and safety records in accordance with company standards.
- Promote a positive, productive team environment and lead by example through hands-on supervision.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on fabrication and machining experience in a shop environment.
- CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) certifications in FCAW and SMAW (required).
- Proven supervisory or lead hand experience in a fabrication/machine shop (preferred).
- Proficient in manual and semi-automated machine operations, including lathe and milling machines.
- Skilled in reading technical drawings, blueprints, and welding/fabrication schematics.
- Strong understanding of fabrication techniques, tolerances, and quality control standards.
- Fitting experience is a strong asset.
- Experience operating a plasma table, metal brakes, shears, and benders.
- Certified or experienced in operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate schedules, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to train and motivate staff.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental compliance.
- Post -secondary education in a relevant field.
