Motiva is seeking a Business Team Leader (BTL) to support our Reforming and Utilities (R&U) Department. This position reports to the Refinery Production Manager. The BTL provides leadership to the R&U Business Team (approximately 140 people) and ensures R&U assets are safe, compliant, capable and available to achieve the operating plan. The BTL promotes a culture of safety, results delivery, collaboration, integrity and mutual respect throughout the organization, consistent with Motiva’s values.
- Ensure employees are empowered to take action to keep operating units in a safe and environmentally compliant state.
- Develop Unit Performance Managers, Production Supervisors, Production Specialists, and Business Team support personnel.
- Participate in audits and assessments; prioritize and close findings (e.g. housekeeping, ISO audits, PSSRs).
- Identify and address capacity, availability, and process capability constraints.
- Provide technical support for key work processes, (ESP, RCM, IPF).
- Manage risk ranked maintenance, shutdown, and turnaround budget/scope.
- Assist in the development of short/long term weekly operating and maintenance plans.
- Communicate daily operating orders.
- Participate on appropriate councils/steering teams to represent issues relevant to the Production organization.
- Initiate and provide support to complete investigations of incidents. Ensure recommendations are prioritized and completed.
- Ensure compliance with mandatory and/or developmental training plans for Production team.
- Execute safety processes as identified through HSSE-MS.
- Ensure equipment and operating procedure changes are executed via Management of Change (MOC) process.
- Ensure effective use and improvement of core work processes.
- Prioritize and sponsor projects to sustain or improve capacity, capability, and availability.
- Participate in the Turnaround process.
- Ensure that process related systems operate within critical limits.
- Ensure operating procedures are accurate and current and are effectively and consistently used.- 10+ years of experience working in an engineering or similar technical role at a refining or petrochemicals facility - 5+ years of experience supervising, leading and developing technical professionals and hourly personnel
- Bachelor’s degree
- Awareness and understanding of Union/Management interface
- Strong in the fundamentals of refining and/or petrochemicals processes
- Demonstration of Motiva’s values and behaviors
- Proven track record of collaboration and delivering results through others
- Ability to communicate effectively and build strong professional relationships at all levels in the organization
- Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots and hearing protection)
