The Business Systems Analyst, Data Analytics / Business Intelligence Engineer plays a key role in advancing Five Star Energy Services strategic technology in becoming a more data driven organization through hands-on configuration, support, and continuous improvement of core business analytics solutions. This individual is embedded in data driven transformation efforts focused on enhancing analytics solutions used across all business functions.
The analyst partners directly with business stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into business processes, design and configure cloud-based analytics systems, lead functional testing, and support users post-deployment. Unlike traditional analyst roles, this is not a hands-off position—this individual will execute system development, configuration, testing, and rollout themselves.
A deep understanding of data transformation, data preparation and presentation, analytics platforms, strong technical acumen, and a collaborative mindset are key to success. This person also serves as a trusted partner to cross-functional teams, ensuring changes are practical, scalable, and aligned with business goals.
- Partner with stakeholders to define and prioritize requests related to existing analytics enhancements, new implementations, and related business process improvements.
- Analyze requirements and directly configure platform-embedded reporting and analytics, cloud data warehouse, and analytics solutions to meet functional needs.
- Develop data extract, load, and transformation (ELT) for replicating data from source systems to the data warehouse.
- Lead functional testing and troubleshooting, managing bug resolution, user feedback, and post-launch support.
- Work in matrix with business functions to improve master data to clean, standardize, and harmonize cross-system data.
- Document business processes, technical configurations, and training materials in a clear, accessible format.
- Serve as data analytics subject matter expert.
- Develop rollout and change management plans, coordinating with users and stakeholders to ensure smooth adoption.
- Leverage BI platforms, especially Microsoft Power BI for consistent presentation of operational data for actionable insights.
- Provide insights and recommendations that consider cross-functional and cross-technology impacts.
- Foster strong relationships with business users and earn trust as a proactive, solutions-oriented partner.
- Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and best practices relevant to construction tech and cloud analytics platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience
- Experience in a Business Analyst or Business Systems Analyst role
- Hands-on experience with system configuration in platforms such as Snowflake, Microsoft Power BI, and ETL/ELT technologies.
- Familiarity with enterprise platforms such as Acumatica, Paylocity, Vitruvi, or other ERP, HRIS, or construction management systems.
- Proven ability to gather, document, and implement complex technical and business requirements
- Excellent communication skills—able to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical users
- Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, field-centric environment
- Strong sense of ownership, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail
- Experience supporting field operations, finance, or construction is highly desirable
