Position Description
A Business Analyst specializing in Manufacturing Engineering leverages business process knowledge and IT expertise to solve operational challenges and support strategic goals. This role bridges the gap between manufacturing operations and the ITS department, enhancing enterprise-wide processes through data-driven insights, technical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
The analyst gathers and documents user/client requirements, supports the development and testing of new products or services, collects feedback from clients, and recommends improvements to ensure alignment with business needs and continuous improvement initiatives.
Principal Responsibilities
- Conducts complex business process analysis, design, and simulation to improve quality, efficiency, and standardization across manufacturing, quality, and engineering functions.
- Leads initiatives to integrate ERP and Product Lifecycle Management systems with manufacturing operations.
- Facilitates process design changes by integrating new and existing systems/processes.
- Collaborates with engineers, manufacturing operations personnel, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assess process changes and ensure business readiness.
- Owns and manages documentation related to business process models, including requirements, design, testing, and training materials.
- Supports senior analysts by fulfilling data requests, preparing reports, and providing technical assistance.
- Serves as the expert contact for cross-functional teams seeking guidance on manufacturing-related systems and processes.
- Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Demonstrates precision in processing large volumes of information, implements quality assurance standards, and balances speed with accuracy.
- Effective Communications: Adapts messaging for varied audiences, communicates with empathy and assertiveness, and uses persuasive techniques to maintain focus during discussions.
- Business Data Analysis: Expert in leading data analysis strategies, defining integration processes, and managing analytical workflows.
- Business Assessment: Conducts thorough assessments, defines success metrics, evaluates risk/benefit tools, and establishes review procedures for critical applications.
- Requirements Analysis: Produces detailed documentation, supervises prototyping and use case development, and ensures traceability using automated tools.
- Technical Writing/Documentation: Designs and maintains formal documentation across functions, ensuring clarity and consistency.
- Product Design and Development: Develops standards and prototypes, and provides guidance on complex design challenges.
- Research Analysis: Interprets research findings, applies organizational standards, and ensures quality control in research activities.
- Recognized expertise in manufacturing engineering, particularly in relation to operations and supply chain methodologies.
- Strong working knowledge of ERP Manufacturing Modules and Data Management requirements.
- Preferably certified or degreed in Manufacturing Engineering, with 1–6 years of progressively responsible experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, with the ability to lead and facilitate design sessions.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to quickly learn and apply new applications as required by the Manufacturing and Quality teams.
- Proactive communicator who engages across departments to develop ideas and provide counsel.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% annually.
Summary Pay Range:
$120,299.00 - $180,449.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
