About This Job

Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative is looking for a Broadband Technician who is responsible for maintenance and installation of service for the fiber to the premises. This includes home installations and routine and emergency maintenance and troubleshooting.

Job Responsibilities:

Within the limits of established policies, procedures and budgets, assumes responsibility and has commensurate authority as delegated by the Broadband OSP Manager for the following functions:

Practices and maintains familiarity with Cooperative and departmental safety related work practices, safety procedures, and other safety requirements.
Provides safe, reliable fiber and broadband service by:
Continually inspecting structures and equipment for active or potential hazards to service.
Responding to all work requests in a timely manner.
Connects and disconnects underground fiber optic drops. Buries and/or pulls up line, using various hand and power tools and other equipment. Installs equipment on outside of building.
Routes and installs fiber and/or cables from the outside to the inside of a home or business. Installs, terminates, and tests cat-5/6 and fiber. Runs and pulls lines through attics, crawl spaces, and walls.
Coordinates with member on location of outlets and other equipment.
Troubleshoots issues with fiber and broadband systems.
Performs service calls as requested.
Splices fiber optic cables as needed, using fusion and mechanical methods.
Tests repaired, new, or updated equipment and fiber to ensure proper functions.
Connects and configures member’s owned devices to the fiber network, such as routers, modems, computers, phones, remote controls, and televisions.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of various technologies, devices, and networking commonly used in homes and businesses.
Educates users on features and services available.
Performs tasks at various heights and in confined spaces, working from ladders and/or buckets as needed. With appropriate training and approval, may also climb poles.
Participates in on-call/stand-by duties as requested during emergency situations. Answers and responds to requests in a timely manner.
Practices and promotes respect towards members and their property by:
Receiving property owner’s permission prior to performing work, when applicable.
Interacting with members in a helpful, professional manner at all times.
Exercising great care to avoid damage to property and reports any damage to appropriate personnel as soon as possible.
Removing discarded Cooperative equipment and other materials from the job site.
Maintains appropriate operation and care of all vehicles, tools, and equipment used in the performance of tasks.
Ensures necessary tools, equipment, and materials are readily available on his/her assigned truck.
Reports any damaged and/or faulty vehicles, tools, and equipment to appropriate personnel as soon as possible.
Operates two-way radio according the Cooperative Policy Manual and department procedures.
Maintains an awareness of Cooperative policies, plans, procedures, and equipment relating to the FTTP subsidiary. Maintains knowledge of the capabilities of devices and equipment.
Attends training, conferences, and trade shows to obtain industry knowledge and career development in areas related to job functions.
Promotes the member-owned, community oriented functions of the Cooperative.
Subject to random drug and alcohol testing consistent with DOT regulation and Paulding-Putnam Electric policies.
Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Reports to: Broadband OSP Manager

External relationships: Members and non-members


Specifications:


Education and Experience:

High School Diploma with 2-3 years Fiber Internet Installation experience.
Home Construction/Remodeling experience (Preferred)
Proficient experience working from a bucket truck and climbing poles (Preferred)


Skills and Abilities:

Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Must be able to communicate well both verbally and in writing. Effectively convey and share information and ideas with others. Listen carefully and understand various viewpoints. Present ideas clearly and concisely and understand relevant detail in presented information.
Must be able to operate computers and various software programs proficiently.
Works together with others and helps others to work cooperatively to accomplish goals/objectives.
Must be able to determine priorities, organize work schedules and direct people effectively.
Must be able to provide effective leadership, motivate and develop the skills of those persons supervised.
Must be able to handle pressure of meeting multiple deadlines.


Additional Expectations:

Maintain confidentiality regarding PPEC proprietary information and other department information. Overtime may be required to complete the duties as directed. Assistance may be expected during major outages.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must work well individually and with others from various backgrounds, philosophies and experiences.
Attend meetings as requested or assigned including overnight travel.
