Position Overview: The field mason is responsible for constructing, repairing, and finishing masonry structures, including brick, block, and stonework. This position requires a high level of skill, attention to detail, physical endurance, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
o Lay bricks, concrete blocks, and stone to construct walls, foundations, chimneys, and other structures.
o Mix, apply, and finish mortar and other bonding agents to ensure strong and durable masonry work.
o Cut, shape, and polish masonry materials using hand and power tools.
o Repair and replace damaged or deteriorated masonry structures.
o Perform tuckpointing, waterproofing, and sealing to maintain structural integrity.
o Assess masonry damage and recommend appropriate repair solutions.
o Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.
o Measure and mark layout lines using levels, chalk lines, and measuring tools.
o Ensure alignment, level, and plumb of masonry work throughout construction.
o Select and prepare masonry materials according to project specifications.
o Load, unload, and organize tools, materials, and equipment at job sites.
o Set up and dismantle scaffolding, ladders, and temporary structures as required.
o Operate and maintain hand and power tools, including saws, trowels, mixers, and chisels.
o Clean and store tools and equipment properly after use.
o Report any damaged or malfunctioning tools to supervisors.
o Follow all safety regulations and company policies to ensure a safe work environment.
o Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to job site safety protocols.
o Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and hazard assessments.
o Ensure masonry work meets project specifications, building codes, and industry standards.
o Conduct visual inspections and measurements to verify accuracy and precision.
o Report any discrepancies or issues to supervisors immediately.
o Work closely with other masons, laborers, and construction personnel to complete projects efficiently.
o Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding job progress and challenges.
o Assist in training and mentoring less experienced masons as needed.
· Regularly lift and carry masonry materials weighing up to 50 lbs without assistance.
· Occasionally lift heavier loads over 50 lbs with team lifting or mechanical assistance.
· Stand and walk for extended periods (8+ hours per shift).
· Work on uneven, muddy, or debris-covered surfaces.
· Frequently bend, stoop, and kneel to lay brick and block or work at ground level.
· Climb ladders and scaffolding up to several stories high while carrying tools or materials.
· Push and pull wheelbarrows filled with mortar, bricks, or debris weighing over 100 lbs.
· Perform repetitive hand and arm movements, including gripping, troweling, and lifting materials.
· Work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind).
· Exposure to dust, debris, and loud noise from construction equipment.
· Maintain physical effort throughout an entire shift, including working overtime when required.
· Minimum 2+ years of masonry experience in brick, block, and stonework.
· Strong understanding of masonry tools, materials, and techniques.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements accurately.
· Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
· Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
· Valid driver’s license is preferred but not mandatory.
