This is a critical position in maintaining Gladiator’s safety compliance regarding the maintaining and testing of the Blowout Preventer (BOP). The BOP Technician is tasked with tracking BOP certifications, performing post job BOP inspections, certifying BOP test results and validating BOP test certifications by properly completing documentations. This position may interact with the consultants and customers by positively facilitating period BOP test audits of Gladiator’s practices. On rare occasions, the BOP Technician may be called upon to interface between the customer and supervisor on location in issues resolution under the guidance given by Gladiator’s local management team.
- Performs BOP test set-up, operation, and return of the BOP to their respective location using the overhead crane or forklift.
- Cleans, disassembles, inspects BOP components, repairs/replaces any necessary components, assembles, and returns the BOP to serviceability.
- Inspects internal BOP components by opening the bonnet and removing the head to assess internal components such as seals, cutters, and blocks as well as the external BOP “casing” for serviceability.
- Maintains tools, lifting mechanisms, securing devices and materials in a continued state of readiness.
- Validates BOP test results by submitting paperwork such as the Work Order, Chart Recorder and Stem Paperwork to management that is complete, accurate, and timely.
- Tracks BOP test expirations and notifies management of upcoming expirations.
- Performs low- and high-pressure BOP tests in accordance to API 9B, API 16 ST, API 2D, API 54, and 30 CFR § 250 as well as additional customer or consultant specifications.
- Facilitates discussion with management when customer or regulatory BOP testing specifications change along with impact to current Gladiator’s BOP testing methodology.
- Consults with the customer during BOP test audits to ensure Gladiator standards meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Provides feedback to management from any pressure control audits and highlights areas of improvement to better align with our customer’s expectations.
- Tracks inventory of BOP components on a monthly basis and works with procurement to maintain the minimum inventory of commonly used components.
- Assists procurement to obtain quotes and submits Purchase Orders in a timely manner to prevent disruption to operations due to lack of parts.
- Demonstrates superior housekeeping practices by applying 5S principles (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) to keep testing area, tools, and materials in a clean, orderly manner.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the BOP system, components and testing procedure.
- Ability to determine the serviceability of BOP components.
- Knowledge of the role BOP to coiled tubing services at the job site.
- Knowledge of shop workflow and protocols.
- Ability to submit BOP testing reports that are complete, accurate, and timely.
- Demonstrated proficiency in collaborating with colleagues and in creating a team working environment.
- Ability to work a rotational schedule and remain fit for duty.
- Ability to meet the physical, language, mathematical and reasoning ability requirements of theposition.
