FLSA CLASSIFICATION:
This is a non-exempt position. An employee in this role is compensated hourly and is eligible for overtime for hours worked over forty (40) in a work week.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Overview
A Billing Clerk is responsible for processing and maintaining accurate billing records for electric utility services. This role ensures timely and precise generation of member bills, responds to billing inquiries, and supports the finance team with account reconciliations. The Billing Clerk must be detail-oriented, customer-focused, and proficient in handling confidential financial information. Strong communication skills and a commitment to excellent service are essential in supporting SCAEC to serve its members with integrity and efficiency.
•Assist with timely and accurate preparation of monthly bills rendered by the company.
•Reviews and tests all new billing rates to ensure their accuracy.
•Works with software provider to troubleshoot, as necessary.
•Establishes, maintains and updates all files needed to complete billing including late charges and collection notices.
•Assist in collecting delinquent accounts and directs field personnel as they perform disconnects due to non-payment of bills.
•Works with and assists other office employees as needed.
•Keeps informed of and abides by all company policies, procedures, programs and safety rules.
•Participates in educational and technical training and conferences as needed to maintain progress and knowledge in job related areas.
•Responds to customer billing inquiries and complaints that the Cashiers or Consumer Experience Reps are unable to resolve.
•High school diploma or equivalent required.
•Three (3) years of billing, data processing, bookkeeping or equivalent experience preferred.
•Database management, proficiency in working with Excel spreadsheets and Outlook.
•Knowledge of general office procedures, customer service and billing.
•Ability to effectively communicate with the public, members, and employees in person, in writing, and over the phone.
•Ability to make and verify computations accurately and quickly.
•Ability to operate standard office equipment, including personal computers, calculator and copier.
•Ability to learn and assist co-workers with various software applications.
•Must be able to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
•Must possess excellent communication and human relations skills.
•Required to be a team player with high integrity, regular work attendance, courteous and professional, able to work well with a diverse group of people, ability to gain and maintain respect of others, both inside and outside the company.
•Ability to work with Engineering and Operations employees relating to billing duties.
Work Environment
•The role is typically performed in an office setting, with occasional participation in community events. The representative must be able to manage a challenging environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
•Works in a climate controlled office environment with minimal physical exertion. Job requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers. Requires ability to perform close work, have good vision and hearing.
Safety
•In pursuant of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act 593, this position is a designated safety-sensitive position.
