We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Battery Cell Production Leader to oversee end-to-end battery cell manufacturing operations across multiple US based facilities and electrode component production in Japan. This strategic role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, high-efficiency production of battery cells and components through both in-house operations and contract manufacturing partners. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in battery chemistry, global manufacturing oversight, and leadership in scaling advanced battery technologies for grid scale energy storage applications.

What you will do here at Fluence:

- - Key Responsibilities:

- Operational Leadership:

- Partner with on site factory production management to oversee operations of battery cell production across multiple U.S. facilities, ensuring performance targets are met for safety, quality, yield, cost, and throughput. Work with technology and production equipment providers to qualify and implement yield and OEE improvements on a regular basis.

- International Oversight:

- Lead and coordinate cell supply chain operations including electrode (battery component) manufacturing in Japan, working closely with local teams and strategic partners to ensure seamless global production supply chains.

- Technology and Chemistry Expertise:

- Apply deep knowledge of battery cell chemistries (e.g., LFP, NMC, solid-state, etc.) to drive process improvements, troubleshoot production issues, and guide the implementation of new technologies.

- Contract Manufacturing Management:

- Lead selection, onboarding, and management of global contract manufacturing (CM) partners. Establish KPIs and performance metrics to ensure consistent quality and delivery.

- Cross-Functional Collaboration:

- Work closely with R&D, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality teams to align production strategies with business objectives and new product development timelines.

- Global Strategy Development:

- Develop and execute long-term manufacturing strategies that support scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable battery production globally.

- Compliance and Standards:

- Ensure all facilities and processes adhere to relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO, IATF) and environmental, health, and safety regulations.

What you will bring to Fluence:

- - Experience:

- 10+ years in battery cell manufacturing, including leadership roles in building and operating battery factories.

- Proven expertise in battery chemistry and cell production processes.

- Demonstrated experience managing international operations, especially in Asia, working with in house and contract manufactures.

- Track record of scaling manufacturing capacity while maintaining product quality and process integrity.

- Skills:

- Strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to manage large, cross-functional teams across geographies.

- Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and decision-making under pressure.

- Strong communication skills and cultural fluency in working with international teams.

- Preferred Qualifications

- Experience launching new battery cell production lines or facilities.

- Experience working within Asia manufacturing and industrial environments.

- Knowledge of ESG requirements related to battery materials and production processes.

Travel expectations

- - Travel Requirements

- Domestic travel to U.S. engineering & manufacturing locations (25–40%)

- International travel to Japan and other partner locations (15–25%)
