Position Summary: The Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems in a team environment to enhance the efficiency and reliability of our oil and gas operations.
- Develop PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) base code for production facilities.
- Design local and global Ignition (Inductive Automation) projects by leveraging the Ignition platform to create scalable, flexible, and efficient automation systems.
- Manage automation contractors working on new and existing facilities
- Implement, Integrate, maintain and troubleshoot local automation with global SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
- Conduct research and development to integrate new devices and enhance functionality within automation systems.
- Develop and maintain documentation for automation systems, including schematics, diagrams, and user manuals.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Provide technical support and training to operations personnel on automation systems.
- Authorize invoices and monitor project expenses.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, or a computer related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years in automation engineering, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Programming/Coding: Proficiency in ladder logic, structured text, Python, and Java.
- Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Networking: Basic networking configuration (port forwarding, LAN/WAN, traffic steering).
- Technologies: Cambium radio networks, IP cameras (Axis or other).
- Software and Tools: StudioLogix5000, Automation Builder, SQL, Red Lion Crimson software, ABB Totalflow PCCU/WinCCU software, Inductive Automation Ignition designer, Linux Ubuntu.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in SCADA systems, PLC programming, and HMI development.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of industrial control systems and instrumentation.
Predominantly Monday – Friday with some weekend work, as needed. Mix of office and field-based work with frequent trips to field locations. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.
