As Associate, M&A, you will support the transaction and business development function. You will work closely with all members of the M&A and finance team, as well as the broader Northland organization.
This role will be based in our Toronto Head Office.
Key Responsibilities•Responsible for preparing and managing corporate and/or project-level financial models for valuation, risk assessment, and cash flow evaluation purposes;
•Responsible for reviewing and stress testing financial models prepared by third parties and advisors;
•Assist in the coordination of due diligence, including: preparing questions for company management and external advisors, reviewing documentation, researching industry information, supporting the coordination of internal and external terms, and summarizing results;
•Assist in the coordination of sale processes, including: financial model preparation, information memorandum drafting, data room population, and Q&A management;
•Responsible for writing investment memorandums and preparing presentations summarizing key findings from internal and external sources;
•Accountable for translating financial analysis into concise recommendations;
•Work with internal teams on analysis of energy market fundamentals in both new and existing markets for Northland;
•Review market data and financial statements to identify possible acquisition targets and prepare models to value possible acquisition benefits;
•Gather relevant information through communication with external organizations, colleagues and the use of electronic information providers;
•Research and analyze financial statements, industry information, technical and financial data to present conclusions to team members;
•Support other initiatives as needed.
Who You Are
•A proactive self-starter: You have a desire to succeed in a fast-paced, changing environment. You have proven ability to take initiative, organize, and manage a high volume of detailed projects simultaneously, and prioritize appropriately.
•Analytical: You can formulate valuable insights around the dynamic capital markets and have the ability to create structured analyses. Prior experience running financial models is a must-have.
•Collaborative: You are a natural relationship builder and are comfortable working with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
•A strong communicator: You have exceptional oral and written communication skills and are able to articulate your analyses in a clear and concise manner.
•Diligent: You have solid attention to detail, and you follow up with others where needed to ensure outstanding information or actions are complete. You are hands-on and will roll up your sleeves to complete deliverables within required deadlines.
Qualifications
•You have a business undergraduate degree (Economics or Finance) or related field, with exceptional academic results;
•You have 2-3 years of investment banking, private equity, management consulting, corporate development, or other transaction-related experience, with a background in power and renewables, or broader infrastructure;
•You have demonstrated experience valuing corporate and project-level acquisition opportunities;
•Experience creating and reviewing detailed cash flow and three-statement financial models;
•Masters of Finance, CFA, CPA or other advanced designation considered an asset.
